Readers Exposed: Steve Knight

Name: Steve Knight  Age: 52  Occupation: Wealth Client Manager

First bike?

Honda VFR 800 dark blue. It was bought on impulse at a dealership as my brother had recently bought a bike.

Current bike?

BMW R 1200 GS Adventure Triple Black.

Dream bike?

An Indian. I sat on a couple at the NEC a few years ago and, not remembering the exact model, it just felt so right and comfortable. I would get one just for the summer.

Most expensive motorcycle accessory you’ve ever bought?

A close call between my Alpinestars Big Sur jacket and REV’IT! trousers, or my BMW panniers. I’m very pleased with all these items.

Mountain passes or desert pistes?

Mountain passes. You can’t beat the scenery, fresh air and the changing weather conditions.

Tent or hotel?

Hotel. I enjoy a few luxuries after a day in the saddle, with food and drink close by after a shower. I usually also need to do some charging and map studying.

Lifelong ambition?

To stop working and ride around the world. I want to be able to see as much as I can and enjoy all those memories when I am old and no longer riding.

Most Dangerous Motorcycling moment?

Meeting a car coming at me head-on in Ireland. The driver had his head down, appearing to be fumbling in his glovebox while crossing into my lane. I was just about to bin into the verge when the driver looked up a swerved at the very last moment.

Most memorable motorcycling moment?

The first time me and my dad decided to do our very first trip which was to Ireland. I remember the planning, excitement and nervousness beforehand. This was followed by the pure enjoyment and satisfaction of the journey. We had great chats over a few beers and spent quality time together which we had not done in a long time.

What do you miss most when travelling?

My partner and our Labrador, Bonnie. My partner is currently getting close to either becoming a pillion or taking her test and coming with me on her own bike, that or it’s a side car and take the dog with me.

If you could meet any person, dead or alive, and ask the one question, who would it be and why?

Steve McQueen. I’d ask if I could tag along on a ride with him and his mates.

Favourite crap joke?

What shoes do Frogs wear? Open toad sandals.
