Transalpina, Romania

It’s no secret that Romania is home to two of the best motorcycling roads in the world, the Transalpina and the Transfăgărășan mountain passes, but did you know both can be ridden in a single day?

Romania may not be the first country that comes to mind when planning a European motorcycle tour but it has all the ingredients for an epic adventure. The land of Dracula is rich in jaw-dropping landscapes, pristine wilderness, cobbled medieval towns, and hilltop castles shrouded in myth and the Transfăgărășan mountain passes, which snake their way over the Southern Carpathians as if they were designed with bikers in mind.

Linking the two together is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have on two wheels, and their close proximity to each other makes Romania a tantalising prospect for a short motorcycle tour. That’s exactly what adventure biker Josh Hudson did when, with only a few days off work, he flew to Romania and managed to squeeze in the ride of a lifetime. You can read all about Josh’s adventure on page 54.
