The much talked-about lightweight adventure bike project from Portuguese manufacturer AJP Motos now has a name and an official unveiling date.

The Terrestre (Portuguese for ‘overland’) can be seen for the first time in all its tiny cc glory at the at the Horizons Unlimited event in Ripley on 7-8 July 2012.

The bike is based on AJP Moto’s PR4 200cc model and combines many of the features pioneered on ABR Osvaldo Garcia's bike, which he took on a two-month 11,371-mile voyage from the AJP factory in Portugal to Pretoria in South Africa. A prototype Terrestre is currently being built.

“The idea of a super-lightweight off-road capable bike kitted out to do big distances is just what the market has been waiting for,” says AJP’s brand development manager, Alan Pumfrey.

“If you’re attending the Horizons event, be sure to look out for a black-and-yellow AJP that's like nothing seen before!”

200cc, that's a bit big isn't it?

Personally I'm really pleased to see smaller engined adventure bikes, but then I ride the 125cc Derbi Terra Adventure. I hope they've worked on comfort on the AJP as the standard seat wasn't somewhere you'd want to spend a long time, touch wood it'll be a stoss small engined overlander and not a dressed up trials bike. Who knows it might even spur Yamaha on to bring in their Brazilian only Tenere 250cc.

you want at least 400 cc of overland adventure, otherwise it is just a joke. you can travel round the world on a donkey, but you want more power, more acceleration, more fun factor, not just a boring poping mule smilies/sad.gif

We'll be stocking them I think, with Touratech Panniers of course!

Surely that's what you want, not what everyone needs, Nathan, Ed, Lois, etc. showed they didn't need power to travel. That's one of the joys of travel the way we do it, we do it the way we want.
So I'm pleased to see smaller engined adventure bikes making an appearance so that we get more choice.

I read about a guy from france riding from paris to vietnam on a 200 cc vespa. so the size is ok, some people like to take the B roads not everyone wants to belt down the motorways.
