I was in the local bookshop and just happened to spot this book on the shelf and a quick read of the back cover and I thought I would give it a read.
It very quickly drew me in and found it hard to put it down having read it in a couple of evenings. The story flowed well with plenty of funny exploits and also the long list of different characters that the author met on his travels.
It certainly given me ideas about getting out on the road and enjoying Europe in the future.

A must read

Like preview reviewers, this was my first adventure riding book. But it is much more than that; it is a (often very funny) reflection on the conflicts middle-age men have to confront. Being 40, I found re-assuring that I am not the only one experiencing these issues !!! It is also very well written, and I strongly recommend it. I have read many adventure riding books now, and this is the best together with Lois Price's Pan-American ride book, and Jupiter Travels.

I'm not a big reader and this was my first adventure biking book, I have to say that I couldn't put it down and if a book doesn't grip me I don't tend to carry on with it.If you are over 40 you will see yourself in it over and over, made me chuckle all the way through.

Side-splittingly funny

This is a great read. Elegantly written, wonderfully incisive and side-splittingly funny. Here's one of my favourite passages (about Poland):

"On the single-lane 'motorways', the tarmac was warped from wear and cold and heat, and the ruts trapped my wheels from time to time like tram tracks and took them off towards the oncoming juggernauts. Target fixation's not an issue in Poland. It's perfect midlife crisis territory. You just get in a rut and see where it takes you."

A great way to while away a few hours on long, cold winter nights (or any other time, come to that).
