Preview the new Neotec helmet from Shoei
Written by Em-J
Friday, 27 January 2012 16:01

Following its launch at Motorcycle Live, ABRs will get a chance for another close-up look at Shoei’s brand-new drop-down visor system helmet when it goes on show at the Excel next month, before it’s released on sale to the general public.

The Neotec, Shoei’s first ever drop-down visor helmet, will be exhibited 2-5 February at the MCN Motorcycle Show. The company claims it ‘sets new standards in safety and style’, and reports so far suggest the new design has been well received. “The Neotec helmet is a product of Shoei listening to the needs of their customers,” explains Feridax’s Mark Ingleby.

An ABR-ing couple who rode their motorbikes half way round the world are opening a new business to help other adventure riders explore the planet on two wheels.

Cliff and Jenny Batley from Sudbury, Suffolk, covered over 26,000 miles on their 12-month biking odyssey, riding matching BMW F650s across nearly 30 countries before reaching their furthest destination in New Zealand.

“We had an incredible year,” said Jenny “It was a really fascinating journey and we saw some incredible sights and met some incredible people.

Now the Batleys are launching The Adventure Bike Shop to help fellow travellers prepare and equip their ABR-ing machines for long-distance challenges.

ABR takes on Elephant for charity
Written by Em-J
Thursday, 05 January 2012 10:57

An ex-military ABR, who left the forces due to injury, is doing the Elephant Rally solo, to raise money for Help For Heroes.

40-year-old John Mclain (no, not that one!) is planning to tackle the gruelling Bavarian rally on a Honda Transalp, which will see him cover 3,000 in eight days in the depths of winter, to raise a target £5,000 for the charity.

“I’m a very lucky boy,” says John, sales manager at Phoenix Honda, Grangemouth. “I was injured on duty in N.Ireland, but after a few operations on my hands and leg, I’m fully fit and I’ve still got all my digits."

2012: the year of ABR
Written by Em-J
Thursday, 22 December 2011 11:19

Christmas may be upon us, but here at ABR, we’re already looking forward to the New Year. New trips, ride outs and adventure plans are all on the cards – as well as test riding some brand-new adventure machines – and there are already ABR rallies planned for Scotland, Wales, the South Coast, the Midlands and Cumbria among others. We’ve a feeling 2012’s going to be a blinder for adventuring by bike.

We want to make 2012 the year of The Big Trip, and by that we mean your Big Trip. Whether it’s a 12-month RTW or venturing out on a new greenlane, we want everyone to make 2012 the year their two-wheeled riding aspirations come true – and we want to hear all about it with pictures, stories and write ups, online and in the magazine.

ABR’s enjoyed tremendous success this year, and it’s thanks to the enthusiasm and passion of our readers and the support you show one another, as well as the mag. Keep on posting, keep on sharing, keep in touch. But most importantly, keep on riding and keep the dream alive.

If you’ve got a two-wheeled adventure to share, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Happy New Adventure!

New Range of Textile Suits from Stein
Written by Alun
Tuesday, 13 December 2011 13:17

Better known for their leather gear Stein first hit the market during the 1980's but are having a bit of  a mini re-launch aimed at the ABR with an all new textile range that includes five jackets and four pants.

Prices range from £79.99 to £109.99 and men, ladies and children sizes and designs will be available. They'll be in the shops from February and we hope to be getting our grubby little paws on a suit to test in the near future.

If the performance matches the spec sheets then the new range looks to be good value. As an example the new Stein STJ505 Touring Jacket (RRP £109.99) comes with the following features.
