Does your bike suffer from soggy suspension syndrome? We’ve found a solution
Have you ever bought your dream adventure bike, only to be let down by its bargain-basement suspension? Suddenly that dream bike seems a lot less dreamy.
Bike manufacturers are always looking to keep costs down, and suspension quality is often the first victim. And because a motorcycle’s fork, shock, and related components impact every other area of the machine’s performance, their lack of performance is often magnified.
OEM (original equipment manufacturer) suspension is also built to a standard set of specifications, but we all know that each rider is unique in their size, proportions, and riding style, so one-size fits all certainly isn’t the case here.
Fortunately, suspension is one of the first things you can modify when you buy a new bike. We’ve looked at a number of suspension brands over the years, but one that’s been on our radar for a while now is TFX Suspension, based out of the Netherlands.
TFX builds builds proper high-performance shocks that can be fine-tuned to your specs, and we thought we’d take a closer look at their range.
The ‘no standard’ shocks for adventure riders

TFX specialises in shocks, and offers three tiers of replacement shocks for your bike.
The Traveler is their entry-level shock but still comes packed with technology designed to offer improved comfort, steering response, and feel than an OEM unit. It may not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive units, but it’s still built for long-range riding and durability, making it a great choice for touring.
The Freelexer is a more advanced shock, featuring three-way adjustable independent damping rebound adjustment, as well as low- and high-speed compression adjustment. Plus, you can adjust the spring preload and there’s the option for a remote adjuster so you can quickly and easily compensate for extra weight.
The Xtreme, meanwhile, is geared more towards high performance, prioritising handling over comfort while still being suitable for long-haul adventure biking.
Every TFX shock has damping valving designed specifically for its intended usage, along with a spring selected for your riding style and weight.
They’re also all fully serviceable, meaning that you can maintain their performance at a high level for mile after mile, year after year.
Shocks and forks need love too

TFX is more than just shock absorbers, though. It also offers linear and progressive fork spring replacements, and also services suspension from other brands.
