Long Way Home: Ewan and Charley return for fourth series
The boys behind Long Way Round and its sequels, Long Way Down and Long Way Up, are back with another instalment in the motorcycle travel documentary series.
Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman set off to ride around the world back in 2004 on a pair of BMW 1150 GSs, which helped bring adventure biking to a new audience.
The following series saw them ride from John O’Groats in Scotland to Cape Town in South Africa, while Long Way Up saw the duo ride from Ushuaia on the southerly tip of South America up to Los Angeles on Harley-Davidson Livewire electric bikes.
Now, Ewan and Charley are riding from Ewan’s home in Scotland to Charley’s in England, taking a circuitous, 10,000 mile route across Scandinavia, down through the Baltic nations, and exploring Eastern and Central Europe before crossing the Channel and entering England two months later.
The bikes they’re riding?
Well, they haven’t chosen the BMW R 1300 GS for their next adventure. Instead, they’re riding a pair of vintage motorcycles: Ewan on his 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado police bike, and Charley on what appears to be a BMW R75/5.
Speaking about the inspiration behind this trip, Ewan said “on a rather tricky, sandy bit of Long Way Up, Charley and I started to daydream about another trip to keep our minds off the scary road at hand. This is that trip. Rusty old bikes and 10,000 miles of Scandinavia and Eastern and Central Europe. A big loop from my house in Scotland to Charley’s house in England. Long way home… magic.”

The new series is being produced for Apple TV+, with longtime collaborators Russ Malkin and David Alexanian returning to produce and direct.
There’s no news on when the 10-episode series will be available to watch, but it seems that the filming has wrapped up so we can assume we’ll be able to see it on our TVs soon.
