Lawrence Bransby, 63, is a retired teacher now living in Manchester. Lawrence bought his first bike whilst at university in 1969 and has owned a variety of road and off-road bikes since then. His first long trip was in 1997 when emigrating to the UK, he and his son, Gareth, then just 17, rode old XT500s across Africa to get here. But their first trip together was across Lesotho when Gareth was 13, as a treat after completing primary school. Since then he and Gareth have travelled together to Russia, Morocco and, last year, into Central Asia.
