Ive got a car and I wouldnt have needed it but now have an 18 month old boy so need the car to take him to day care etc.
If I didnt have the little fella I would be very tempted to get rid of the car though as the wife has one.

2 bikes no car, been this way for 7 years. The Mrs has a car, she uses it for work so if she's not on shift I can borrow it but I hate driving so rarely do.

3 bikes no car, our lass has a bike and no car, seems alot who have repleid have a car within the family, but not us. Trace dosn't have a car licence. I got rid 6 years ago after realising it was costing £600 a year for it only to do about 2000 miles, now when I need one I hire, much cheaper and a brand new car everytime. And no longer the fammily taxi.
But am considering a small van in few years time, VW T4/5 with a part conversion, finding I need a car more now with the arrival of the Grand-son.
But I am lucky as I only live 2 miles from work so its 5 mins on the push bike.

You can...... let her take your son to day car ;)

I have a car as well as my bike. I use my bike more often, but I live in the sticks so the car is the safer option for the colder days when the roads are still slippy, and sometimes I need the space.

I've been tempted to sell my car and only buy one for the winters, but why do that when I already have one? It owes me nothing anyway... bought for less than a grand, costs hee haw to insure and has been fairly reliable anyway.

I am jealous :P , I have one bike and one car. Wife doesn`t drive so the car is to ferry her and the kids around. I did have only a bike though for about 6 years before the kids and used it for everything including carting said wife and dog around!

I sold my car to buy my first bike in 1982 and didn't own another car until 2002.
I don't fully understand why folk give up bikes when kids come along - my ex and I just got a side-car & when she reached 6 years, she rode pillion.
Finally succumbed to buying a car when my daughter reached 17 and wanted to drive.
I now own an MPV so I can take my bike with me!

Best part of 20 years ago, my then about to be ex wife took the kids, the house, the car, the bike and all the money. Had to get myself a solicitor to get the bike back. Borrowed cars when I really needed one, but went without 4 wheels for a couple of years. Wouldn't have done it through choice.

21000 miles on the bikes last year and 2000 miles in the car. I only drive the car when i have my son of dogs.

I ride in all weathers to work on a 70 mile 2 hour round trip. My secreat is heated gear...makes riding in freezing driving rain possible without really bulking up...oh and you will need the best waterproof gear you can afford.

Mike
Three years ago I was doing on 30,000 miles a year in the car, about 10,000 on the bike.

In the last 12 months the car has not even covered 2,000 miles and most of that was not by me. The other half has a car which sorts the times a car is needed. The RT has full panniers and top box so I can go anywhere on the bike for work too and leave the gear stored on the bike. I hardly ever use the car now.

The full fairing is perfect for all weathers and means I actually don't need a waterproof over suit or heated suit. Fender extender keeps a lot of water off your feet.

A silk helmet inner, windproof rain over gloves work in all weathers and will prevent hands or fingers going cold but I don't use any heated gear. The only thing I use is that in wet weather I use a hi viz jacket over the bike gear which is rain and windproof. Lidl at €8! Never been cold or wet on the K. But vivid memories of times past and being cold and wet on a naked bike when I found there was very little that would keep out persistent rain apart from a one piece plastic over suit.
