What else can i do with a WR 450f

Post by train driver »

I am now the owner of a 2005 yamaha WR450f, all road legal,
tyres, lights, horn, exhaust etc etc.
So apart from a bit of local trail riding can i do any long distance trail riding on it

I sold my WR450 because I always felt like I was playing Russian roulette with the engine. The owners manual said 1hour oil change and the shop I got it from said 2-3 but wouldn't put it in writing.

Had my 250 for 2 years and regularly did 120 miles in a days trailriding but I can't remember ever changing the oil and filters 3 or 4 times a day

100 mile (at best!) oil change intervals :woohoo: What does it do to the oil that it's "worn out" after 100 miles and only fit to throw away?

An hour?! I thought it was 5-6 hours? You can't do anything in an hour.

It is a racing bike after all, but...

On looking at the owners manual, available here:

Yamaha Manuals

Enter the bike data and the manual can be downloaded.

On page 3-1 and 3-2 it states oil and filter changes after 600 miles (1000km or every 5 RACES). I would suggest you could at least double that if you were touring around on it.

slap an oil cooler on it and you'd be good for a couple of thousand miles - more if you aren't pushing it. Loads of info on advrider etc

The limiting factor is not the bike but your @rse, like most enduro bikes any more than half an hour on the seat can start to hurt.
The engines are very reliable but they do have known issues with 5th gear wearing (usually symptoms are surging badly in 5th).
Nice bikes, enjoy ;)
