I just sold my 1984 Honda XLV 750 R here in Thailand. Loved the thing but, as a realistic person, I realized that I was not willing to spend the money that it would have taken to restore it. And, having no mechanical skills, had no more business owning such a beast than the plethora of Husky Autos that I owned while in the US. Any real rider would appreciate the weirdness that made it, and it was essentially a concept project, the great bike that it is. Hitting the powerband on a dirt road was magical (or even on the street)and it was like a 750cc motocross bike going through the gears. I don't think that I would recommend trying to ride around the world on one but, like my Husky autos it is a unique ride. I will never forget riding up the Carlsbad freeway on an 87 Husky 430, in about 2002, striding by new age four strokes and having their pissed off riders try to t-bone me in the corner at the top of the climb out of exasperation. The XLV provided a similar thrill when I caught two KTM guys on a trail and rolled the throttle on and watched them in my mirrors. Hope it does not seem like a brag. I would recommend an XLV to anyone who has ever dreamed of riding a real big cc Paris Dakar bike and doesn't want to spend beaucoup bucks to buy an actual factory model. The things are a blast.

Even the oil filter is in an easily-accessed place!

Easy one this. You just get your local, reasonably priced and professional franchised Honda service depot to check it.! They're your mates and are always looking after you and your wallet.
