Anyone used chainsaw oil in a scottoiler.it's getting expensive scott oil or is it me being a tight arse.to me chainsaw oil looks to be the same stuff but you can get 5 litres for the price of 1 litre of scott oil.any feed back would be great good or bad.cheers tony.

Any oil will work in a Scottoiler. The advantage with chainsaw oil (and slideway oil which is what I use) is that it has an adhesive component that acts as "anti-fling".

The disadvantage of the adhesive component is that it looks dirty whereas plain oil like a multigrade or monograde will be nice and clean.

A mate of mine uses saw oil poured on from a bottle and swears by it, I'm sure there must be technical differences but to most of us it's just oil for chains, cheaper by the gallon too ;) and you can get bio-degradeable chain-saw oil

use oil I uh "obtain" probably not perfect but its free therefore negates possible slight extra chain wear, tight Welshman see.

Used it for years but I squirt a bit of WD40 in with it to try and thin it out a little.

I read recently that 'Rock Oil' chainsaw oil is 'very similar' to scottoil, costs about £18/5L.

The cheapest ATF I can find, usually in a 25l container in the bus garage about 10m from me
