Honda XR400

Post by biker »

Hi,
i would like to lower my XR400 i'm only a short arse 5' 8" and struggling to even get my toes on the ground so I would like to lower it by about 3" if possible, i've looked at lowering links but they come nowhere near. Any suggestions please. Thanks for reading this.

there was a guy on here a few weeks back selling a second hand hagon shock for the xr400 which I think he said would lower it by a couple of inches.
I know what you mean, I am the same height and have a standard xr400. it is tall but I just slide slightly and put one foot down. doesn't bother me at all as its so light. when your on the pegs and off road you don't need to put your feet down at all hopefully.

Thanks byway billy I'll have look at the shocks if I can't find anything then I will just have to dig out my old platform sole boots from the 1970s.

You could start by cutting the seat down....peel back the vinyl cover and re profile the foam with a kitchen carving knife and stretch the cover back and re staple to the base.
You could probably lose a couple of inches that way quite easily and for free.
If you didnt feel confident about making a tidy job of it there are custom seat people out there who would alter it for you.
I was at the Mick Extance off road school in Wales recently and a couple of his crf250's have cut down seats for shorter riders.

I have the opposite problem with my own XR400, being very tall i have had to put bar risers on mine to make it more roomy!

Thanks green machine thats one option, they make it look easy on youtube, the seats not all that comfortable after about an hour as most of my riding is on tarmac at the moment.

Thanks Jim
