heads up for a forthcoming sale.....
This is my son's charlie's bike as he has replaced it with a very nice R850GS. The 660 has been used almost exclusively for commuting all year so I am not claiming it is in good condition, although I am in the process of cleaning it up and it is scrubbing up OK considering the use its had but it would take a lot of work to get it back to good condition. Its had a hard life and it shows with several scratches, marks ,wear and tear, worn out paint and salty corrosion on the engine and exposed parts. Its also lived outside for some of the last two years. But the price reflects this and its all there and working. On the plus side its has had a Scotoiler permanently installed so the back end has had a good dose of oil allover it keeping it largely corrosion free and in the two+ years Charlie owned it it has been 100% reliable apart from wear and tear items like bearings. Everything works on it and it has an MOT until June 2017. It has a more or less complete service history and has recently (May) had new brake pads, chain, wheel and head bearings, and whole load of other work. Charlie stripped and freed up all the all the calipers a few months back - they seem OK now.
It would make a good commuter for someone, a Rat Bke for rallies, a decent trail bike as is, or with a bit of love a decent cheap travel bike, or with a lot of TLC it could be brought back to a really decent bike. If interested, I would urge you to see it first so you know what you are getting.
Its a 2009 Black 660Z Tenere with 35,000 - EDIT. ITS ACTUALLY 37,700 miles on the clock. All 3 keys present, Leo Vince exhausts (loud and lots of popping and banging), tail tidy, Acerbis hand guards, Scotolier, and Hyperpro front springs. Items like chain guard, front sprocket cover crash bars and Aluminium sump guard have been removed - and it looks well 'ard. Most of the removed parts are available (I need to check in the box of bits I was left with), as are the original exhausts and tail piece. Also Included are Yamaha Panniers and pannier brackets - removed from the bike. I should be able to refit as much of this as required except the tailpiece and exhausts as I reckon that will not be straightforward. The bike is not in use now and is SORN.
A half decent one of these with similar mileage seem to be priced around £2800+, however we are going to put it on eBay with a low reserve minus panniers, and a tempting Buy It Now of £1800 all in. However an offer very close to that will secure it to save the ebay hassle. Its a bargain at that price and can be viewed more or less anytime in Garstang, Lancashire.
I haven't got any pics yet as its in bits being scrubbed up a bit but if anyone is interested I will take some if the sun shines.
Yamaha XT660Z Tenere for sale - CHEAP
Re: Yamaha XT660Z Tenere for sale - CHEAP
It's good to see someone selling a 6 year old bike and asking a decent price rather than a fantasy World one.
I hope it goes quickly and he doesn't get messed around by tyre kickers who don't recognise a sensible price when it's looking them straight in the face (thumbs)

A few other things to be aware of.....the tail tidy is rubbish, well the tidy bit is OK but it leaves a huge hole for crap for get under the seat. We have stretched a piece of sheet rubber (HD inner tube) over this and screwed it down/cable tied it. Rear left indicator is a bit iffy. It works but is loose and leaks so won't last for ever. The front brake lever is bent following a drop. Perfectly useable, but just to be aware. The pillion rests were removed so I could get the pannier brackets off. It looks better without them but will be supplied with the bike in a box. There are two sump guards - the originally grey plastic one and an Aluminium one which I think is supposed to fit with tubular engine guards. The guards are available but rusty and need to be powder coated really. All will be supplied and the buyer can fit to their choice.
The panniers are the small Yamaha Aluminium (or Aluminium lookey-likey?) type. The brackets are OK but with a few marks but I think the brackets that fits on the pillion footrest should have some sort of pad to prevent rattling. This is missing but some inner tube and/or duck tape should work fine.
There's a spare screen that is a but scruffier than the fitted one. Original exhausts would need a new seal and clamp. The original tail end will need some good cleaning, de-rusting and new screws and bolts.
Ummm, I think thats it. There's two very good offers on it at the moment, plus some other not so good offers.
