Hi ABR
It's me again, I suffer from tinnitus and therefore soundproofing on my helmet is key and perosnally i prefer a flip up, so what would be the best flip up helmet for noise reduction, as not much about this subject for flip up's on this subject online.
Best sound proofed Flip up helmet
Re: Best sound proofed Flip up helmet
I was told by a Schuberth reseller that flip front helmets are quieter than a full face which has to be pulled down right over the head, because the neck curtain has a snugger fit.
I can only report on my experience, the Shoei Neotec is a lot noisier than the Schuberth E1, I have owned and used both.

Re: Best sound proofed Flip up helmet
I have bought and used over the last 5 years
a schuberth c3 flip - nice helmet and quiet ( as quiet as you can probably go?) and the most comfy helmet i have ever owned (thumbs)
An x-lite 551 nonflip but peaked - fucking awful for comfort and noise worn for a 10 day trip and now thrown to the back of the shed
A caberg tourmax flip and peaked - way cheaper than the c3 but i find it very quiet and comfy and a big surprise (thumbs)

Re: Best sound proofed Flip up helmet
I tried a Caberg Tourmax and after 1/2 hour the vibrations from the crap peak had given me a headache, sent it back and I'm still on the lookout.
My experience of various flip helmets has been that they are usually noisier than a good full face road helmet.

Yes it seems to says that flips were noisier than full face online, but then ear plugs balance out the difference, so likely to go for C3, but will try out some full faces before I finally decide.

I can't believe how quiet and comfortable this helmet is.
Cheers Dave.

Re: Best sound proofed Flip up helmet
There's a flip front lid test in this month's Ride magazine, as it happens.
They rated the Caberg Tourmax as 4/10 for noise (the worst lid in the test). The quietest were Shoei Neotec (8), X-Lite X-1003 (8), BMW System 6 Evo (8), Schuberth C3 Pro (8). There's 15 lids tested in total.
(You're wearing ear plugs too, right?)
EDIT: And of course there's webbikeworld which is an excellent resource for helmet reviews and information: http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle- ... elmets.htm)
