Essex 3 lane bimble! first off road on the gs800

Post by dibbs »

Well I finally got it muddy!!! went for a three lane bimble with smudger, mainly to test our helmet comms and my gps setup on the iphone, I had sort of 90% road tyres (anakee 2) so was sliding around quite a bit even on the flatish lanes that I chose. We went through Littley Green see below vid, then down the lane after towards Little Waltham which was a bit more slimey and a few ruts. I had to just let the bike slide into whichever rut it wanted as steering was pretty non existent on the road tyres, but it felt surprisingly nimble for a big bike once on the move, and with proper tyres on im sure the speed could be increased and the handling will be much more improved. Obviously the speed side of things is a lot slower than the enduro bikes but I think I could get used to it, as hooning down a lane scares the crap out of me now, also its a bit more interesting at lower speeds. And the road sections between lanes are now a thing of joy as the gs is mega comfortable..... we fiddled our way down to High Beach for a cup of tea and some cake then I blasted back up the M11 home in comfort even managed to wash the bike down, and with the slower speed and less mud cling it didn't take too long, and actually cleaned up quite well!!!! just need to buy a couple more " farkles" lol. Enjoy! (Hope the vids work!)

Love it dibbs, I love the comments, got my feet wet lol  and it's slippery......well it is a river :pinch:

Great video, nice to see big bikes doing the do, you need to come down to us in Kent.

Recommend tyres for winter on a bigger bike, depending if you do a lot of road miles like me would be MT21 Front and a Karoo3 rear.

For summer Mefo explorer front and karoo3 rear.

I go through 2 mt21's a year they are good for 3,000 miles

1 x Mefo explorer (Summer) good for 7,000miles

and 2 x Rear Karoo3's good for 7,000miles each.

Just to help you guys out.

Thanks Si
lol I didn't realise the mic was picking up my commentary hahahah! it did sound a bit girly didn't it...
We are looking at the Karoo 3's front and rear and im scouring the internet for the best price, out of interest why don't you like a Karoo on the front? and we will definitely be down for a ride with you soon as we sort our tyres, as smudger knows your area well (but not the off road area!) we used to go fishing at Chipstead if that's not far away! and he knows Aynsford really well so thanks for the invite one that we will be happy to accept.

Karoo3's are a 70/30 tyre. So 70% road 30 % off road.

Where as in the winter the MT21 is 90 % off road 10% road. So doesn't last so long but miles more grip on the front in the wet stuff, you can feel a lot more feedback through the bars.

For the summer, when the lanes are miles drier, don't need the MT21. So I go for a Mefo Explorer, which is a 50/50 tyre.

Karoo3 on the back, because it will get through most wet stuff, but also gives me 7k life. If I put a MT21 on the back then I would kill it off in a day lol.

That's my reasons.

Hi Pingman we are using the Sena smh5 system and they are brilliant but I reckon only about 200yds line of sight range (the manual states otherwise nearly double that!) if I could afford it I would go for the Sena 10 lots more range and multi headsets can be used. (with the sena 5 only 4 headsets can be used)

Stevo I am in Braintree so when I get new tyres will be getting round the loop I used to do on my enduro bike to see how much harder it will be (really shouldn't be that bad actually its fairly flat round here) I will post a ride out on here when I do so we can all have a laugh at each other.

Good for you getting out on the mid on the bigger bikes, especially with road tyres. No wonder it was slippery.
I guess your satnav will only show "north up" and I'm not sure you can change that on a phone.

Paulinbont, I think the strobe effect is because it's an led tail light and it's just the camera making it look like it's flashing?
