Rare bikes on the road.

This is inspired by our last ride out with the East Anglia Bimblers.
Those who were there ought to remember the old Gentleman who helped us out, and recounted his Vincent Comet.
Here's the bike I was referring to during the conversation.
You don't get many of these to the pound any more that's for sure.

Used to see loads of them when I lived near Stevenage and even know someone with, at the last count, 3 tucked away... but that is really unusual. But if you went to the Silver Ball cafe on the A10 near Royston on any warm Sunday there always used to be 5 or 6 old boys turn up on theirs. All ex-employees, so had a depth of Vincent knowledge.

However how many of these do you see at small club bike rallies?

Silver Balls I know it well, what a breakfast to be had there; the black pudding is amongst the best I've had anywhere including Ireland.
Perhaps a meet and ride venue at sometime in the future?

After 20 years in the area I got used to Vincents seemingly being everywhere, then I moved to Derby with work.

First summer here I went to the car and bike night at Ashby Follville and a Comet turned up... everyone flocked around it ooh'ing and ahh'ing . Meanwhile I was walking round drooling in ecstasy over the what to me were rare but well ridden Triumph and Norton models, that I had only ever seen in magazines and books outside of the Classic Bike show. For most models they seemed to be in every known colour scheme.

Looks like areas of the country have differing levels of what is seen as being a rare bike... which is nice.

Another good one for you guys would be the Cold Comfort Cafe at the A505 A1301 roundabout, the Vincent boys used to go there as well.

Yep have to agree, when I work in Coventry I tend to see quite a few old Triumphs.

Saw this a few years ago at a charity bike show in Wokingham. Some sort of Dnepr/Cossack/Ural type thing. It was streetfightered in a very unique way:



It had:

Digital clocks...



...extra carrying capacity...



...trick electrics...



...and finally, my favourite bit, see through engine cases!



Was my favourite bike there, unfortunately it wasn't in the show, just the car/bike park.
