Hi all,
I am Spanish, but been living in Southampton for almost 2 years. I have always loved bikes. I started riding my uncle's Montesa cota 49 when I was 9 years old. I didn't ride for a long while until I did my CBT in January this year. I bought a second-hand Varadero 125 and since then I am loving it!!!
I have been riding locally, in the roads on my own and off-road as a member of the TRF with the Surrey TRF Group twice. I have also used the bike to commute to London, and I have been amazed about what the little bike can do.
I am now looking forward to my DAS practical test in December and upgrade to bigger bike. And this is going to be tricky, as I would like a dual-sports bike that I can use both on and off road... any suggestions?
Kind regards,
Gonzalo

Re: Hola from Southampton
Hola Gonzalo,
I really hope you pass your test in December as the dreaded new rules come into force in January!!!
If you want a first dual sport bike I wouldn't go for anything bigger than a 650. As you are a new rider the insurance will be expensive, so keep to something oldish, cheap and not very big to start with until you have a few years no claims under your belt.
Suzuki DRZ400 is a very good bike, only 400cc but reliable, cheap and has the big bike feel. Quick enough for what you would want it for and great for off road.
BMW F650GS single, another good bike. There are lots of older bikes that can fit the bill, just remember to go for something oldish and cheap to start with to keep the insurance down. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Hi and welcome, im Dave in Fareham.
As you're local why don't you come down to the simmer rally camp in Lymington tomorrow, plenty of bikes and set Ups to look at

Re: Hola from Southampton
Thank you all for the friendly welcome.
Loggy: yes, the DRZ is one I am seriously considering. The single GS will be great on the road, but heavy to pick up off road
davsato: I still need to fix my bike first, but it is a great idea and I will try to pop around on Saturday
