Luggage options

Post by dubber68 »

OK so it appears that nowadays I am attending rallies etc on a mix of bikes. While the DL has hard luggage I am looking at options for the others and for ease of transferring from bike to bike in one neat package I am thinking that the Giant loop Coyote or great basin are the best option. has anyone any experience of these or any other options worth considering. I have already looked at the magadan panniers but it appears that most require a rack to fix to or prevent contact with the exhaust.

unless you can put givi/whatever racks on each bike so the same cases can go bike to bike, soft luggage is the best option.

ive heard good things about giant loop, the US adv site will have plenty to say about it-

just bought a giant loop exhaust heatshield thingy - cheap and works well with my dirtbagz soft luggage on drz, which previously suffered exhaust heat damage to plastics and plastic stuff inside panniers, despite the dirtbags rails.

Try this, not to expensive and an easy fit. Comes with waterproof liners.

I've been driving with Jofama large saddlebag for a about 5000 km now. On/offroad in Sweden and Norway with Scandinavian weather. It really serves well. One large space for clothes, sleeping bag etc. and two smaller spaces for food, tools, beer etc. In my opinion good value gear!

Dubber,

Watch out for the exhaust, you would think that with that huge plastic heatshield everything would be groovy. Not true :( .

I bought some of the Cameron barker panniers for a trip to Tewkesbury the other month. Even in washing machine rain they melted wherever they touched, without the downpour I would have probably caught light. That was about a 4 hr trip, you're planning many hrs more than that.

Make sure there is plenty of clearance, if it hangs over then you're in trouble & I think those are designed to strap around & under?

They come with an exhaust heat shield in them. Also I have the devil exhaust so there is no integrated heat shield. I am sure they will fit and I was aware of the danger from the exhaust. Managed to get a screen by the way off of the VV forum.

I just got some Kriega bags US5. US10, US20 and the tank mount works really well on the ZZR 14 fully waterproof and will go onto any bike.

Looking forward to seeing a pic of it installed Dubber.

I was thinking of heading to the Ullapool rally but don't want to steal your thunder  . I'm a lot further south than you, 632 miles if I use the motorways is one hell of a journey on a 125. I would need a knees & arse transplant after that one

Don't forget a fuel container, looks like theres some big gaps between fill ups on the west coast
