TI'm no mechanic, but as it runs in oil surely that would dictate the running temperature. Be interesting to check any high mileage 2013s on. I hope the rewind lasts longer than yours

Nope the stator is air cooled or via heat transfer to the casing.There a thread I read recently Ill see if I can find it but basically the early version was a poor design {i have the 08 with 55K]

I wouldn't think twice about setting off tomorrow on such a bike on such a triip (thumbs) Barely any prep to do - bar an oil and filter change, what state are your tyres in? Only replace the chain and sprockets if they look hooked, otherwise leave them. As for taking spares, or leaving spares with a mate to post out to you - you are going to Germany on a BMW, how hard will it be to get spares? Sweden and Norway, loads of BMW dealers. At a push I'd pack a head light bulb and indicator.

Take out breakdown cover and take a credit card. And enjoy yourself!

If you can find a second hand flywheel from a 2012 - present day it will fit and cure the overheating issue

If yours is one of the earlier ones it might be prone to cutting out if things get a bit hot. There is a well known issue with the fuel pump on the earlier models - but I'm guessing if you've had the bike for a while and ridden in hot conditions you would know this by now.

Anyway - if you do find you need to replace the fuel pump a £30 one that's fits a Toyota Corolla will do the job just fine (thumbs)

Either get the stater changed or checked out as you are almost up to the mileage where they go.

We had one on a US trip this year and luckily it went on the last day so we recovered it straight back to teh container to ship home. The AA recovered it back to Sheffield this end (thumbs)

Thanks for all the info on the stator. Will try to get 10K out of the rewind and then look for a secondhand fly wheel
