You did your bit, were fair and he trashed the bike over the weekend and his other half wants him to get rid of it. I think I wouldn't be having anything to do with him but keep a few notes of what happened in case you need them. If he needs rid of it he can an put it on eBay.

Not your problem. Private sale. He saw the bike, inspected and road tested it and bought it. Whatever he does with it from then on has nothing to do with you.
I would not accept any come back in this instance.
Many of us have bought cars and bikes only to find some fault happens within a short time of ownership. Private sale, buyer beware.

Caveat Emptor - How do u even know there really is a problem with the bike?
He could be just trying it on. Offering him anything was extremely generous.
Once he rode away on the bike its his - full stop. And if he's been pulling
wheelies on the bike then he's a bit cheeky asking for anything

Whenever I've sold a bike, I've always got the buyer to sign a receipt saying

"I have purchased this vehicle as seen and approved and understand that no warranty is offered or implied"


If he'd fond £10 stashed in the toolbox, I doubt if he'd have brought it back for you!

Sounds like he's making up excuses - possibly purchased a bike without his wife knowing and now she's demanding he puts the money back or he really has damaged the gearbox and is trying to blame you. Either way, it's not your responsibility and I think you're doing more than enough to offer to get spares.
I always give folk a receipt that says "sold as seen" - it seems a bit petty but when I read stories like this, I'm glad I do.

Thanks for all the replies, The texts got a bit mental going from i'll take the parts to i'm gonna end up divorced if you don't take it back, I've since told him sold as seen but i'll stick by the offer, so have bought a second hand set of gears & a gasket set I may be getting ripped off but at least I can sleep at night !! now to block his number on my phone lol
