I've done a lot of research and for every owner that has a problem i can find dozens that have not had any issues.

I know it will not be like owning a Tenere but i need to change it as the low level vibraitons through the seat are hurting now...and i'm finding my knees are getting sore on long rides.

The 950 seems to suit me better and i can get both feet on the ground which when loaded up with luggage is important.

I've done 17k on my Tenere and it's time for a change now.

I rode that last Sunday..as did he..and now he has decided to keep it or i would have done.

It's very nice and clean and rides so good.

It's not a difficult bike to work on by modern standards, but you need quite a lot of room because of all the bodywork that has to come off.

If you are planning on using it to commute to the job in Gloucester or wherever it was I'd make the necessary investment in manuals tools etc so that you can at least do the oil service yourself. If you feel brave, learn how to do the Valve service too. You can speed up the oil service by making a drain pipe which is permanently attached to the oil tank...which saves having to strip one of the fuel tanks off to change the oil...but you may actually want to take the fuel tank off so you can clean behind it.The recommended oil is very expensive...the Yanks on Orange Crush will encourage you to use a heavy-duty truck oil which is cheap to buy and will last 100,000 km...in a truck with a 50 litre sump!

If you are planning on a lot of road miles, but still want to trail ride the thing then get at least a spare back wheel. You can put one of the 'road' enduro tyres in the back for commuter duties and (depending on how hard core you are, a Dunlop 606 RR (I think it's called) knobbly with a cruciform centre knob or a Super Explorer on for trail riding. Be warned: the Super Ex in particular is a pig to get on and off. The carcase is made from iron, with a thin coat of rubber.

It's actually a comfortable bike to do long distances on the motorway/A-roads. I used to ride from Gloucester to Dartford, do a busy day's work, then ride home again and it was less stressful chugging through the traffic on the bike than sitting in the traffic in a car.

I'd also buy shares in BP, or at least get a Nectar card!

Been on the fence too long..so if they werent as thirsty id have one...best all.round bike ever..yes.maintenance intensive but my mates in africa at moment doing a rw trip...enough said..

Just bu one and ride it on the trails.in europe to experience true navarna...
