Whoops! Crash, Bang, Man Down!

Post by PapaLazarou »

Well, this was supposed to be the second part of my Irish Photorally Report but it didn't really work out...

Having bagged a good few photos on my first outing , that ended upmwitha broken thumb if you recall, I set out on Wednesday to bag some of the more local ones. I wasn't doing too bad - had got the Horseshoe Door and the oldmlighthouse in Wicklow.

I was on my way back over the mountain when... Well, I'll let the piccies show you:

The short version is that i slid on wed road/gravel/downhill 90 corner on single track lane. Back wheel skidded left, right, left, right, left and gripped and highsided me onto the bank on the edge of the road.

End result in seriously broken Femur. Displaced break with three clean breaks, but luckily able to nail(pin) it instead of plate it. Hence the relatively
Small dressing where they went in at the top and the smaller one for the screws at the bottom. As the other picture shows, i seem to less veins in my arm than a cheap sausage.

Amazingly, i'm already up on crutches and moving about but it will be a while before that legs weight- bearing again.

Bike? Last thing on my mind tbh. It was picked up by one of the wonderful passers by that stopped to help and called the ambulance and waited on the rainy hillside with me. The ambulance staff and hospital staff have been nothing but great too.

Sorry for the shite ride report, but had to make do with an iphone and i'm tripping on pain killers!

Good Luck!

Patrick

Feel for you Patrick, did the same to my Femur 20+ years ago and had a nail inserted, bloody painful. Speedy recovery mate.

Good to see the smile in the last pic and hope the recovery is quick and without to much pain.

By the way, that's two down this week - scouse beat you to it.

Will try to finish the rr when i get discharged and can upload my photos properly.

When did scouse come off? I was Weds afternoon at 3.00. Took 2 mins for first passers by to arrive, 40 mins for amb to arrive, then another 30 to 50 mins to get into ambulance and sorted for the journey. Operated on Thursday at about lunchtime.

Most annoying part is that they cut ALL my clothing off. Even the socks!

Still thanks be to HG for their TRG suit and Sidi for their Courier boots. The helmet I havn't seen since, but it stayed in one piece after quite a knock.

Would not want to have been in jeans and trainers anyway.

Gotta go. Chicken curry for dinner. :-)

Beat you, Weds morning about 9:45... :D

Hope you heal quick and are back on the road soon!

I am still creaking a bit and was champing at the bit to get out again today... walked in to the garage started making the list of things to replace and got so grumpy I couldn't ride one of the bikes today I went back in and sulked on the settee watching Sprigfield Rifle. Cowboy films... good sulking eye bubblegum :D

If you take a memory stick in, you might be able to get your X-Rays down loaded...

here are mine from when I dislocated the same shoulder I landed on last week.
