Riding standing up tips?

Post by Jay B »

I've been reading a few tips and threads and you all seem to say you should ride standing up on the bike when off road..... That was my first instinct to stand up off road but I find it uncomfortable on my wrists using the clutch and front break. Should I adjust the levers to make it a bit easier or just get used to it? Any other tips are welcome.

Cheers

Losen the controls up and angle the downwards.

If, while standing you find there is pressure on the bars then consider bar risers.

Standing will probably feel alien at first but keep at it.

Practise.....lots of practise.

Will feel really strange until you get used to it. You are a lot higher up so if you do come off its a longer fall to the floor. But its a lot safer travelling standing up off road. If the bike starts to go you can adjust your body to compensate (will become second nature once you are used to it). If you were sitting down you dont have the flexibility to compensate as much...and will fall off more.

Good luck. Id say find a lane with small ruts. Then practise over and over riding in the centre of the ruts (not in the ruts, the bit inbetween) standing up. Then progress to different terrain.
