Guided winter road bike trips Andalucia or wherever?

Post by DavidS »

I’m thinking of getting away for a 6 day guided road bike tour in the winter (November to February inc) and Andalucia seems the best chance of getting decent weather without heading on a 10 to 12 hour flight…which I don’t want to do. Nor am I going to ride there and back.

Any suggestions or recommendations of places and companies?

I've seen some YouTubers using Canary Motorcycle Tours although I have no personal experience, I would also think this years bike show (NEC) will have some tour companies there.
We've taken a different approach the last couple of years, we booked 'out of season' package holidays with self catering accommodation and found rental bikes to explore the tourist hot spots and also go off the beaten track. Good travel insurance and baggage allowances are a must though. All rental companies will have tourist maps and recommendations for the local area.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Thanks.
I always prepare my own itineraries for our driving touring holidays but felt that going with a group and a guide would be worth it on the bike, if not least getting secure overnight parking for a rental bike.

I am also warming to staying in one place as per the one in Valencia I put on an earlier post. My two weeks in India was always a pain moving on, even though a truck took the gear.

I’m a bit torn as I generally prefer riding on my own - playing catch up or not stopping where I want does get to me. Am I talking myself into just hiring a bike in the Malaga area, heading inland and just mooching to my hearts content but with some route research? Might be looking that way…..
At least there is sat nav nowadays.

It’s always good to get other thoughts so thanks again.

Definitely liking the Canaries trip.
Great price, I like the fact it’s mountain mooching rather than putting in the miles and the winter weather looks far more reliable than mainland Europe. Also like the stay in one place option for my first trip.
I have zero interest in towns, shopping or beaches so it looks ideal.
As it’s 4.5 hours and I can afford it anyway, business flights are less than £300 each way - a bit of comfort always helps!

Thanks for the suggestion, particularly as my brain had only got as far as Madiera, which would be ok-ish but very small.

Canarie trip

Post by ErikGustav2 »

This is organized from Sweden.
It is a one week tour. 6 riding days.
Accommodation is on the same place every night

But I am sure that you can find similar from UK

=
1000 curves Gran Canaria 6 - 13 January

If you want to escape the winter cold and December darkness at home in Sweden for a week and also like challenging curvy roads, then this trip to the warmth with SMC Travel could be something for you! The group makes tens of thousands of curves during the week, when you go up and down the mountains of Gran Canaria on the smallest and most curvy roads (99% asphalt).

The rest you have to run through google translate yourself

Thanks - your post reads very similar to the one tonibe suggested.
The Tripadviser reviews are good but I haven’t looked further.

It just seems to tick all the boxes and, if I hate it, I’d rather waste £3k than £5k and I might at least get a tan.

I’ve booked the Canaries tour for mid January so thanks for the suggestion.
Reviews look good and email correspondence has given the right vibes.

If all goes well, then it might be a toss up between their great looking Slovenia trip (also as a recce for my wife and I for a holiday) or the Valencia one.

Will do.
It appears to be more like riding local roads into the mountains than a road trip but I’m fine with that as it will compensate for giving up trail riding this year.

The Slovenia/Valencia trips are more about getting mileage in.

I think that is a good program for a week.
Stay in one place. Ride different roads.
No lugage on the bike.
No packing/unpacking.

They have same setup for autumn/spring here in Portugal. (May and October. Summer weather but out of tourist season and hotest period)
The group fly in. Pick up their bikes and ride to a hotel in Lagos.
Stays in the same hotel
6 full days of daily rides in Algarve.
