Excess insurance for bike ‘hire’.

The Canaries trip I am going on in January includes the use of a bike and the necessary road traffic and third party insurance but there is, naturally, an excess/charge for damage.
I always take out car hire excess insurance for holidays but can’t see anything for bikes. This is assuming it is still legally classed as a hire.
What do you experts do? Obviously irrelevant with your own bike.

When I went to India there was specifically no costs unless you did anything deliberately - they didn’t even charge a guy for trashing two sets of forks in separate bouts of relative incompetence. They were all well used older Enfield 500’s though.

Can't help but just make sure your medical insurance is ok with you riding a motorbike, many don't allow. Some do but not scooters?!

Over 125cc is essentially wearing proper motorcycle gear (paraphrased). An integral part of their Travel Insurance policy.
I’ll get a GHIC card as well - we haven’t been to Europe since about 2017/18.

Must admit I've never been offered excess insurance on bike hire and have never bought it when hiring a car.
Travel/medical insurance including bikes over 125cc for medical and repatriation is the only thing I do pay extra for.

Since my previous post we have been to Gran Canaria and rented a bike and I chose to take out extra insurance for bike damage for the first time ever (must be getting old). For about 10 Euros a day I decided not to take the risk and once we got out on the road I felt it was the right choice, not because of other drivers but because of the constant tight bends, a local biker told me it's called the island of a thousand hairpins and now I know why .
