Classics

Post by Richard Simpson Mark II »

Government consultation on what constitutes a 'classic vehicle'.

https://www.gov.uk/government/calls-for ... o-electric

I can't find any guidance on this from the BMF or VMCC.

Seems to have been 'inspired' by those companies desecrating classic cars by putting electric motors in them...just buy a Tesla, FFS!
It's like reworking the Mona Lisa to take the lead paint out.

There is interesting article in this month’s Octane magazine Richard.
Relates more to rules of eligibility and safety but made sense to me.
I’ll see if it will photograph well enough to be readable later.
2022 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro sadly gone due to ill health.
Now on a 2025 Triumph Scrambler 400X but may be fitter next year.

Many of these electric conversions were originally intended to bypass lack of spare parts for the engines and as an effort to reduce pollution from using the cars.

Mmmmn, that seems like PR spin to me. A few dozen classic vehicles running rich for a few hours a year is hardly going to choke the planet, particularly when compared to other well documented global industrial processes.

All engine parts can be remanufactured IF you have the budget.

These days it's certainly getting easier to get an engine part custom made for you but the price IS still a problem. Whole electric conversion can be cheaper than engine parts for a vehicle that was only produced in limited numbers.
