I had two weeks off sprung on me at short notice before i went away for 6 months with work. Morocco sprang to mind but i didn't have time to ride there. So with nothing but a rucksack with some clean underwear and a towel i flew to agadir in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Once i got there i quickly hired a yamaha xt660 and headed off north. As i headed over the high atlas mountains the temperature dropped hugely and the wind picked up with the rain. I picked up a goats wool nitted hooded shepherds jacket looking thing for minimal monopoly from a caravan of shepherds i passed and strangely a football scarf.... I spent the first week heading north ending in casablanca, then turned tail to head south to the western sahara. Once i passed agadir and the going got sandy it was a struggle on road tyres but made for some interesting riding. I slept on a roll matt i picked up from marrakech and under a blanket i got from a self proclaimed "nomad" i met in the desert, who spoiled his magic when i heard gangsters paradise coming from his pocket and he whipped out an iphone..... Time up i returned to agadir, pulling up at the hire shop with a very delicate gear pedal and a rattling chain and a bike that looked straight out of mad max, and a rider dressed like laurence of arabias confused grandson. Two weeks well spent, having caught a last minute flight, with nothing but the jeans and t shirt i was wearing, minimal cost and as alaways the random ones are the best.

Oh and did i mention all that with the missus moaning on the back, wearing matching begged and borrowed attire with a pair of my socks on her hands because we never came across any gloves.....

Can't match any of these exotic places but i've biked in:

France
Belgium
Germany
Switzerland
Italy
Monaco

On several occasions over the years but some of my best bike adventures have been in the UK. e.g. trying to ride an R80GS over Hardknott Pass when blocked with snow (I had to give up when it got to about 4 foot deep)

On two feet (I like to go climbing/walking) or two (unpowered) wheels (I'm also a mountain biker), I can add

United States (Walking, Rock Climbing, MTB and Driving around for a month in a HUGE Winnebago)
Bulgaria (Ski Mountaineering)
Hungary (MTB)
Menorca(Walking & MTB)
Lanzarote (Walking & MTB)
Portugal (MTB)
Cyprus (MTB)
Austria (Rock Climbing, walking, MTB)
Eire (MTB)
Turkey (MTB)
Belgium (Caving)
Italy (Rock Climbing)
France (Rock and Ice Climbing)
Switzerland (Ice Climbing)
Mexico (Veg out luxury holiday but managed to include MTBs, Horse Riding and Scuba Diving)

Nothing to report myself (yet) sadly.

I did (true) once write to the British Antarctic Survey, requesting a position. I said that although I had no formal relevant certifications I was familiar with:
- the ice box of my fridge freezer, and
- the works of Vaughan Williams.

They replied that regretfully they had no positions currently available for one with my qualifications :(
You need a degree just to be a maintainence man to work for B.A.S
Though if you have experience with 2st motors you're in!

Nothing on the bike other than travels around the UK.
In the car, went to Erzberg in 2008 to watch the mad do the Erzbergrodeo.
2000 miles from door to door, on my own, never driven abroad before and didn't speak any of the lingo in any of the countries I drove through.
Did the drive each way in one hit, three days taking photos etc on site .
Got home and had to write 2000 words and edited all the photos for an article in DBR by the following morning.
Would love to return this time with the bike just to do the Iron road prologue, especially now as I can speak the lingo-ish and no longer need to order Shnitzel every night

I,m hoping to head to Morocco next year for an adventure. But if I could get away for a week as well I thought it would be nice to do Northern France the beaches, Brittany etc. I'm hoping to go there next year with the family for a little bike adventure...

Hard part with this topic is where do I start! Trying "the beginning" would chuck up this picture:

My first time abroad on two wheels. It's 1970 and that's me in a campsite in Tangier. We'd done Morocco and back in two weeks, two up on a 250 Yamaha.

Subsequent years had me biking to -

Greece-

That doesn't look too much like Greece (I broke down in Belgium!) but this was -

Italy -

Back to Greece -

Spain the following year (a minimalist trip!)-

Those were all in the early 70's. Skipping over the history lesson and jumping forward a few decades (I'll maybe fill in some of the later 70's and 80's trip if I'm not banned after this post    ), this was mid 90's -

My first time in West Africa. These pics were taken in Mali

A second trip down there in 2004. These were in Mauritania -

Not so classic bikes in the Alps in winter -

My stupidest trip -

The Elephant rally on a Honda C50 -

Hard to pick a fave but this one comes close. A week touring Crete with my wife. Also on a C50, but this time a hired one.
