Any current or former motorbike or car instructors on here?

Anything goes, and mine's a Guinness.

Lots been said already.

I'm a pro musician and music tutor... (wait for it)

BUT

I also have a full HGV licence and have worked for several haulage firms on a s/e basis, as well as working as a motorcycle instructor for several years on a part time basis.

Both jobs have their merits.

The poster that said to be wary of mixing a hobby with work was spot on. When I worked as an instructor I loved it...But on sunny days when I was "off" I never went out on the bike.
I think you need to be either detached from biking or so obsessed with it yoi dont want to sleep instead of riding for it to work.

HGV driving.

I picked up a few shifts pre Xmas. Parcel work in an artic. Two shifts with travelling to and from the depot took me to around 32 hrs out of the house. Decent money but imagine 6 of those in week 1 and 5 in week 2. Granted there are limits but you can easily do 60 hrs a week actual working time. So nearer 70 or 80 hours in total.

I'd go for the driving instructing!

If you’re qualified as a driving instructor and don’t mind where you are in the country, a few years ago my friend was being offered incentives to go to the Isle of Man, where they were crying out for instructors. This was 6 or 7 years ago though, so don’t know if it’s still the case, but worth thinking about.
I haven’t read the rest of the thread, so sorry if what I’ve written is way off the mark.

I looked into this a few years ago, an old friend of my wife’s has made a lifetime career out of it.
You could do it over here but you’ll need a degree to get the qualifications to actually get work.
If you want to do it abroad you basically need to be young - I think it was under 30.

We thought about getting the qualifications to go travelling - my wife has a PhD and I used to teach English in a secondary school - it was a non starter I’m afraid.
We have a teacher friend in Oz who set up his own school, there’s plenty of Chinese over there - lasted a couple of years.

I simply don't know enough about my native language to be able to teach someone how to use it. Communication is one thing, teaching the structure is something else.
