Re: Barmouth
yes, of course.. you can't argue with that ..
.. but why on earth dont the authorities provide space and amenities for proper parking. ..
.. its the same up north wales and ogmore and aberystwith, and storey arms ...... instead of ridiculing, and punishing car drivers and bikers, who are tax paying citizens, and hard workers for poor pay, mostly .... provide parking areas!!!!!! .. properly.
Storey Arms, in particular... they ridiculed and fined car drivers for having a well earned break in the winter, but who had to park on the snow covered road verges, to take their kids snow boarding, for a treat ... then `upgraded` the road but drivers still have to park on the (better) verges ... there are thousands of visitors that come to enjoy the mountain walks.. .... cater for them, not fine them and call them idiots !!!

Re: Barmouth
Bollocks they are just assholes who don't care about others... The UK is full of them... Same as the idiots who park where they want just so they are near their front doors..
Society is rotten... Big brov is scared to come on heavy fisted and don't mention skin colour.... Unless folks take responsibility for their actions the country will sink to new levels... So glad I'm only 2.5hrs drive from civilised Europe.

Re: Barmouth
most of them do seem to be assholes, but is this more to do with state provision, or lack of, for UK citizens ..
have you noticed that everything is illegal in this country? ..
wild camping, lighting camp fires, riding most trails, not wearing helmets, or seatbelts, going over the `limit` for speed in safe areas, looking at certain pictures, speaking certain words, expressing personal opinions etc etc etc ..
.. yes these people are assholes, but perhaps they are the unafraid spearhead of revolution for peoples rights in this country??
if you want a life in this country it seems you have to break the law
.. yes the continentals have a different better attitude ,,, but so do their government ???

And no doubt you’d be happy to drown while waiting for the lifeboat whilst someone is ‘making a stand’ against authority.
Places get busy, there are a lot of people in the UK. There are however, plenty of nit so busy areas that can be found.....with a bit of imagination. Add in a bit of self responsibility and a good time can be had.

Re: Barmouth
It’s illegal because too many people don’t give a toss.
It’s clear from the wonkas massing during Covid that brain cells are in short supply nowadays.
How many huge fires are started because some idiot thinks taking a throw away bbq to the woods in the height of summer is a good idea. When we were in Alaska back in the late 90’s there were some massive forest fires and, even there, they said 90% were due to stupid people, not spontaneous.
The general trend these days is that people don’t know ‘stuff’...probably not over useful but ask them something away from football, celebrities of computers and they go blank.
But, yes, parking provision is generally poor wherever you go. And expensive, even on street. Our nearest town is a bit of a retail backwater but has lovely old fashioned quiet seafront. So the local authority are blanket charging for parking which will destroy what shop will be left and the poor residents who live outside the zone will be inundated with parked cars all day.
The French are good though, wherever you go there is some lovely shady parking...very civilised.

Re: Barmouth
OnH .. and would you be happy for your loved one to die in an English hospital while the intensive care nurse is late, looking for a space to park, or the money to PAY for the privilege .. is the nurse irresponsible and an idiot .. or should 'authority' provide sensible free parking area?

DavidS
. I agree too many people don't give a toss
. in fact I am appalled by the general population of the UK, especially Welsh, who have no respect for cleanliness and the safety in the countryside, .. but I am thinking Education.. in schools, and training in the arts of camping , biking lol , country code etc ... WITH special areas set aside for such ?
Or is this too radical an idea, for the UK ??

Re: Barmouth
I read just yesterday that us Welsh get screwed for more money from the Welsh economy that the English grudgingly hand back ...
Since Covid, there has been a huge surge For Independence
The Welsh covid response is far more measured and sensible than the English bobo
