When you're off road in mud, ruts, gravel, rocks, sand etc, nobody ever said "How I wish I had a bigger, heavier bike"

When you're chomping off miles to get home on the road nobody ever said "How I wish I had a less comfortable bike bike"

"Are we there yet?"
There=the eternal question about:- what is an adventure and what is an appropriate bike for an adventure?

Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Re: What would put you off buying a GS1200/1250?
A really interesting read here, and before last sept no-one would have been able to convince me a 250kg bike was a good idea off road... then I did an ORS course, with a 700 booked, but they persuaded me to try a 1250, and I didnt want to give it back.
The weight vanishes when you get it moving, the pots help you spin it round when you get it upside down up a hill, the bottom end torque allows you to trickle it through stuff as if it were a 250 trials bike, and I could go on about how stable it feels with full abs braking going down rocky hills etc. I was just so impressed I couldnt believe what it could let me do and make it feel easy.
Since then I've done 3 more courses, bought my own, ridden it to birmingham hospital in freezing weather, had it upside down in sweetlamb and managed to recover by myself, and look forward to every time I can ride it. I've also never ridden a bike that has felt so comfortable after a day on it (ok so that was a stop-start day touring with ORS).
But I dont want to put my foot down in a hole when stopping at the side of a road and end up with it sitting with the pot in the hole and me alone, until a nice car driver stops to help. (Again

Teflon bach, next time your down this way with the big Katie let me know we will have a little spin, if you tell me your bored looking at the ass of a GS by the time we reach the predictable GS 1200 coffee stop I will buy the coffee and cake alternatively the coffee can come out of the orange jacket if your KTM is able to enjoy the "armchair style" ride, I'll have a word to Al to get it on. See you when the gates are unbolted, keep safe.

God, orange is soooo boring
But eventually they all look the same... so long as you have the inclination !
Its the rider that makes it boring, not the bike
