Wow, just been on the FB page, you've generated an amazing amount of interest. It's great to see all these people from everywhere in Europe getting into it. Keep up the fab work and I home to participate on some of these routes soon.

're charging, I agree 're difficulty in keeping .gpx files to only those that have paid, but you could do a member's only area of the website similar to what ukgser and the TRF do.
That way for a nominal subscription they get access to the value added parts e.g. recommended and discounted accommodation, route updates, mechanic services etc

The issue I see in charging is fokk sharing old info as has been pointed out. Where out of date info is passed around leads to problems which eventually leads back to the legit source, just look at TAT where folk are riding now illegal areas and the TAT site having to issue warnings about it.

Why would anyone pay for it? I'm not a big fan of the concept but can see it's value to others and the fact that it's essentially open source where the end user is also the creator and updater of the info.

Because these things cost money to set up. If you put aside the time taken to set it up and then update it, the server space itself costs somebody money. It's not like sending an e-mail, although it can be passed on this way of course.snaf wrote:Why would anyone pay for it? If someone is forking out of their own pocket for this, then spends a great deal of time updating it, they may soon get fed up with it. However, a little funding, even in the form of donations from riders is not a lot to ask for the researched details of a 34,000 km trail ride.
We are only talking about, perhaps, the cost of a beer or two.

I sound a bit like a free loader there, donation option is a good idea and I have donated to such things as wikilocs along the way.
