reaching for the nozzle and balancing a bike? Why would you? Only ever did it once! And that was when I didn't intended paying
Balancing! When you have a foot down both sides. Oooohhhh! Dangerous!

How do we manage not to drop the bike at traffic lights?

Never had a bike fall when I've been sat astride it with my feet down. Had plenty of bikes fall of the sidestand.

Ralph, excuse the sarcasm, but how many times did you get off the bike and fill it on the stand and subsequently run out of fuel before you realised that by filling it whilst sat on it would enable you to always get to a petrol station? :silly:

AlanHolt wrote:Overfilling a tank can cause problems. You're pumping cold fuel from underground tanks into a much warmer container. The fuel cap vent is designed to stop liquid but allow vapour through. These can become saturated with fuel as it expands in the time it takes you to pay as it gets hotter, the tank then can't breathe and fuel is forced through the lock mechanism, washing away the grease/lubricant, or through the tank overflow, dropping fuel near the rear tyre.
Problems? On my bike it would just run down the overflow, if it warmed up quick enough that I hadn't used it already, and that would require a very hot day. It's petrol not diesel or oil, not a problem to get a drop of it on your back tyre.

I have pushed bikes the last mile to the petrol station on more than 2 occasions.

New shell policy

This rule is just health and safety bullshit. How many fires started around the world by bikers filling up sat on the bike? Try to find statistics on that, you won't because it doesn't happen enough to bother collating them. If your common sense and concentration span is so bad you spill on your gonads or get it in your eye, you probably shouldn't be in charge of a moving motorbike.

I agree with Ralph here.
I have never got off my bike to fill.
I don't get off to pay the attendant, I use automatic pay pumps.
I can get over 2L of fuel in my Transalp from when the nozzle cuts off,
which is about another 40km of range.
I have yet to spill fuel all over myself.

Why would you watch the numbers on the pump? Watch the fuel going in the tank instead.
