We'll sort a ride out!
My CCM is fitted with a gear change indicator, a blue light which comes on when you pull in the clutch, it also flashes oncoming traffic to inform them you've just changed gear.....innovative or what?
.....actually the guy that fitted the excellent Oxford heated grips routed the cable over the high beam switch, so when I pulled the clutch in it squashed the cable against the switch. 30 second fix, but could have been dangerous never the less, randomly flashing drivers out from side streets or to turn right across my path!

I'm about to put over 10k down on one of these.....please tell me I won't be disappointed! I'm going all in, so RS with power upgrade (thumbs)
It's a hell of a lot of money but I'm hoping this is a 10 year bike. I'd like to buy 2nd hand but I'm not waiting years for one to come up

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
i cant tell you
what id say is that its a good bike for duelsport ..i dont use mine for commuting or road trips or anyof that stuff ..its purly targetted at off road destinations and typically will spend far more hours off road than on ..for that purpose i think its great
i dont think the ccm is a good town bike even with the powerupgrade ..it just feels like it wants to go faster than town traffic allows ..on the open road its pretty dam exciting surprisingly quick with the full power unplugged
id reccomend getting a good long test ride..although i love the bones of mine they are a aquired taste can be very viby low down and have a few quirks that arnt found on other bikes
i have a few other bikes and i tend to keep me ccm for longer weekends and special trips ..me crf did 10000 last year and me ccm 4000
most owners luv em some dont and sell quick ...
as a one bike does all ..im not so sure ..but targetted at what its made for its ace ...
test ride i think is essential i wouldnt buy without a try
just seen some on ebay milages 773 ...70 170 ...thats hard to understand but savings to be had
hope this helps (thumbs)

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
I've only done a couple of hundred miles on mine.
The first 20 miles were stop/start traffic......defiantly not the ccm' s strong point, but I'd sooner ride it through traffic than my CBR 600! I would imagine it wouldn't be great for the more technical trails.
I think it's a very nice motor, castrated at the bottom end to get past emission regs, which makes it all a bit weazy for the first 15/20% of throttle. Out on the 50/60mph A & B roads it's great.
I'd think that the CCM developed power commander, which allows you to retain the two year warranty and 5000 mile service intervals is a pricey but important upgrade.
It wasn't love at first mile for me, but it definitely grew on me.

I have to agree, a CBR 600 is not the best bike for more technical trails.SteveW wrote:I've only done a couple of hundred miles on mine.

Try a CBR500, and you could possibly fit the Rally Raid upgraded wheels and suspension.
Somebody should do that.
It would be a great look for green lanes.
Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
Hi Paulie, like you I fully intended my CCM to be at least a 'ten year' bike, but with the problems I've had I am not so sure. I bought to use for commuting, 17 and a half miles each way, about 12 miles twisty B road and 5 town and city. When it has been running right it is a great commuter bike, the only downside is that as it is an off road bike the mudguards are minimal and you and the bike get covered in crap. For longer journeys it is fab on twisty roads and will keep up with the traffic on motorways. Off road it is brilliant, and really confidence inspiring, with the low version you have to be careful of ruts and big rocks. Apart from the reliability my only complaints are the wiring under the rear mudguard, presumably they buy in the rear light and indicators with a fixed length of wire but having connections exposed like they are is stupid on any bike let alone an off roader, oh and the seat. The seat is crap, the foam is way too soft so it gets to be a pain after about fifty miles.
I am waiting to see how I feel when I get mine back. In retrospect I would probably have been better keeping my TTR for off roading and buying a cheaper winter hack.
Cheers Jak

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
Sorry to be reading your tales of woe Jak, nothing worse than a faulty bike. Using mine for work I unfairly, in my opinion, have the nickname of Breakdown :pinch:
I commute on a CRF250 so a brown back will come as no surprise. The CRF will stay commuting, this would be for the pure fun; single track, camping weekends, long trips where the CRF is just be too much of a pain.
I've been looking at everything but my options seem quite limited. I want something sub 160kg that isn't taller than I am, FI, decent tank range, not bonkers but still brings on that mad grin when you open it up.
Even though I rarely (last couple of years) venture off road, I just prefer to ride dirt bikes. I was one of those that put road rubber on my mountain bike back when I was a courier, so it's always been there (thumbs)
Unfortunately I can't get away from work until at least the end of the month to test ride one

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
Hmm, this thread seems to turning into a good long-term test of the CCM. But the more I read the more my X-Co seems to fit the bill for so many riders, including P4ulie: weight, around 150 kgs, range 400+ kms with an X-Tank fitted.
Off road? Very capable on light trails, very very capable with suspension upgrade for this with the skills to make it worthwhile, ie. Moi? Non!
Road use? Oh yes! When I lost got mine there was an X-Moto on sale in the Uk as a scrappy but all worked fine and I thought, "This could be the 'cafe racer' I had back n the '70's with my 450 Desmo Ducati - dream on sonny.
Commuting, sadly that's how BMW marketed the bike and IMHO death a death blow to sales, but it is a great year round bike for commuting, economic, agile and über reliable.
Touring? Oh yes, I've done two month-long tours around Spain on the bike - each about 8,000 kms - and numerous long weekends where I rode about 3-400 kms to get to my destination - 400 kms is stretching it a bit but of you had a) some extra padding on the saddle and7or b) some extra padding on you bum you could be OK.
The only niggle I have is that I can't find a screen/fairing to fit as I'm beginning to find long runs at speed a strain on the old upper body, but that's largely because my upper body resembles a few pipe cleaners wound together with a lump of plasticine for a head ...
