Whinger of the Weekend?

Post by SteveR »

Forget Whinging Poms, how about Whinging Aussie Eddie Jones and also some of the England Rugby team who were totally bamboozled yesterday by the cleverly coached Italian team for 50mins!!

As Spud nicely put it in a message during the game, England were "Bemused by Irish intellect!" ;) Personally, I found the game a huge entertainment and although the final result was as expected, it made for a real challenge.

The ref was a star and watching him explaining to Dylan that he is the Ref, not a Coach deserved an award all of it's own.

I'll never understand the rules of rugby union as long as I have a hole in my arse.

I must say I was surprised at the reaction of the players and pundits on the day - Jo Launchberry changed the game with 2 smart pieces of play which earned him the MOTM.

I went to Australia in 1987 to play 2 seasons of rugby, at that time English rugby was amature in all respects and pretty much a free for all - you played what was in front of you. In Oz it was far more professional and structured. You played in zones and had different tactics for those zones whether in defence or attack.

European rugby has come along way since then but I wonder if it's become to structured - where has the French flair gone? Interestingly the Kiwis can play both a structured game and a free flowing one.

The answer was very simple on Saturday and should have been picked up by everyone instantly - If the opposition do not commit players to the breakdown then niether do you. The tackler must let go of the player the tackled player must them let go of the ball, but there is nothing then stopping him getting up, picking up the ball again and running on. Simples
