for what you want the bike for ..i wouldnt bother ..there are numerouse cheaper better bikes to haul down a motorway and comute on ..i dont see taking a comprimise bike like the ccm and sticking it on a motorway as good idea ..
personally id keep the x country stick ascreen on it and run it into the ground .. better engine and box for motorways and more than up to light green lanes (thumbs)

On the subject of weight I came across this list:
http://www.advpulse.com/adv-bikes/light ... e-bikes/2/
Looks like the CCM was just behind my 1989 250 NX! on weight!-Interesting considering the time difference and frame materials etc.

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
I don't do commuting - unless you include walking from bedroom to the study via the kitchen and bathroom! (thumbs) - but I have a similar set-up for biking, the X-Co for road use, touring, etc. and some 'lite' off road and Beta Alp 200 for trails and pooling to them. I keep both bikes in the Pyrenees where I'm based about 9 months per year.
I've often considered trying the 'one-bike-fits-all' choice but, like most folks here, can't find the right balance. Also, having spend the dosh on the X-C, buying it second-hand - silly one here in Spain - fitting luggage racks, bash plates, X-Tank (extra 6.6 l's of fuel), upgraded suspension - I recommend Wilbers, I think Hyperpro are a bit OTT for an X-Co (and a numpty rider like me!) - it wood be silly to sell it, rather I'm trying to add things to improve the road use, better saddle, some kind of screen and upgrade that horrible plastic headlight.
Meanwhile Beta Alps are cheap and plentiful second hand - and are a lot of fun, the 200 is like a powered bicycle and I can take it pretty much anywhere, including a short overnight 'tours' thanks to Altrider Hemisphere bags, so maybe that's the sort of option you should consider.
Like may I'd love a CCM and have thought seriously as the 'one-bike option', but from what you say buying the CCM would be like getting a thoroughbred to do the work of a carthorse ...
Hope that helps ...

I can also recomend Magadan panniers. I used them on a 3000 mile tour through the Pyrenees and French Alps on my GP450. The supplied inner bags appeared completely waterproof and the panniers adapt well to variable capacities.
Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
These are all wet weights, so the CCM carrying around 20litres of fuel is going to look heavy in comparison to these bikes who probably have fuel tanks in the 7-10 litre range + screen+ bodywork etc etccatcitrus wrote:On the subject of weight I came across this list:

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
tbh, in general, I don't really believe these `weights` anymore.
on paper my TTR600 (154kg wet, possibly 146 for the belgarda?) weighs about the same as my CRF250L (144kg)
but .. the 600 was far FAR more heavier to push! and ride!
Paul's 450 ccm felt heavier then my 250L but supposed to be Lighter? ?
perhaps its just lower and more planted?

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
hi steve ...congrats
if you like the standard bike ..you will be smiling like a lunitic when it uncorked with the power plug .. it smooths things out lower down and it pulls stong impresivly strong ..me dl650 would be hard pushed to keep up with it and the ccm is much quicker off the mark than me wee strom ..its dead entertaining
im tall like you and find me seat pad makes a big diffrence to ride height
ive been using one of these and for 50 quid they work really well for on the ccm icreasing comfort and raising the seat height off road you can let the valve go and flatten it ...back on the road it self inflates ...pretty good

got put onto these risersby luckygary he had em on his ktm ..and they fit the ccm a treat..just like rox without the cost ..the cables will take a 2inch rise if you reroute the clutch cable underneith

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
Cheers Minky,
I should have put my post about my new CCM on this thread!
I've got an Airhawk that I'll try, to help increase the seat height, but I like the look of the Amphibious Softseat.
Have you got anymore info about the risers?
With my 450exc I can short shift up the box and let the torque do it's stuff, in its current state of tune with the CCM I have to hold on to the gears longer. So the power commander and exhaust should make the whole thing more relaxing.
With the KTM 450exc I'd say on a trip with some trail riding I'd be looking to change the oil every 1500 miles and I'd start to feel a bit guilty from 1000 miles onward, especially if I'd been doing some 70/80 mph road work. You also get bugger-all warranty, but it's a strong motor.
With the performance upgrade we're looking at 50+ Bhp for the CCM, which is 450exc territory and you still get the two year CCM warranty, with 5000 mile service intervals.
Which kind of says two things to me, well done CCM for standing behind their product and also, given that the KTM is the same cc with the same power output and the same oil capacity, I'm pretty sure if you're not racing your KTM then 3000 miles between oil changes wouldn't hurt.

Re: ccm gp 450 happy day
i see the logic in that and i confess idont stick to ccms oil intervals ..i change it at half way around 2500 miles ..or befor a bigger trip and after coming home and so far it seems to be fine ..in the last three years ive just ridden it and not worried and its taken me everywhere i want to go the valves were unmoved at 5000 and 10000 and the motor on the old bike was spot on when i traded it in at over 450 hours
it can use a little oil ..the recomended check is a pain in the ass ..basically if you can get the oil to show in the window stone cold ..even if you have to tilt it slightly ...your good to go as when it hot it will show high in the window .i fill it bike level and as soon as the oil shows a nadge at the bottom of the glass thats job done ..dont over do it or it will blow out of the brather into the airbox ..id carry 500ml as the odd 100ml top up every now and again is normal
the power commader /plug has made the nova gearbox ace the extra 10hp has made the bike roll on strong ..60/80mph it just braaaps straight up there ...with the standardf box it should be a proper hard charger
..
i see no reason steve you cant do similar on the ktm say after riding down to spain or wherever 1200 miles ..just dump the oil and put freash in ..if its like the ccm it take literally 5 minuits ..ive never seen a bad filter at that milage and if you have one there is aproblem anyway that a filter isnt going to cure .. and the screens only take 2 mins to clean ..i doubt you would need to bother there only for flecks and ive never seen anything to worryabout in them on that short milage
the bike i think should go 20,000 befor needing any major servicing ..ones just done cape town in one hit on one oil service
you will be running in i know ..one thing that takes abit of geting used to is the throttle ..its a very long action one ..somtimes even now i have to remind meself to wind it open more to get the full effect its almost like two stages soft and docile and then you hear the airbox and it goes like a scalded cat
just a tip ..i found that the w/p forks were set soft as when you rode it ..i had a messing about afternoon and found the preload was set soft ...there is a big improvment winding that on ..im about two turns from full and the damping improves considerably at speed (thumbs)
looking forward to meeting up for a ride (thumbs)
