I work in a company where there are lots of small Chinese made bikes used by the warehouse staff.

There are also the usual mix of japs bikes alongside them...all the same age and all the same sort of thing.

What i do see is that the jap bikes seem to stay rust free much longer and in general be better at what they are wanted for.

yes i know i'm going to get told that it's all the same steel made in china but put simply...Chinese made bikes seem to rust and look rough much earlier than jap bikes.

There may be lots of reasons for it i know such as being looked after by people who pay more money...but it still stands that Chinese built bikes look rough after two or three years outside.

When i start to see ten year old Chinese bikes looking like the same age jap or European bikes i might look again but for now i want a bike to ride and not to look after it.

If i want a bike that will rust that easily i'll go buy a Harley!

Now let the abuse begin.

Didn't think swm was Chinese crap swm use to do and have something to do with the husky 510 / 630 which is the same engine and all parts fit the supermoto and enduro bikes plug and play tank / plastics and the many aftermarket parts that are already out there for the husky safari tank etc ... they technically the same bike as they were made by the same people it's just Chinese money backing the company in Italy I think it is... and Italy make good bikes I use to love the vertematis my self not really made anymore I don't think but great bikes ... last I was hearing there was talk that it may compete well with the ccm gp450 essentially having more grunt and power who knows time will tell ...

The CCM might be lower powered than the SWM600 - but what is the power to weight ratio between the two? I bet the weight difference will more or less cancel out the extra horsepower - and the lighter bike surely will be easier to manhandle?

If only CCM had used the Rotax 652cc motor for their Adventure bike, instead of the 450 - which was probably a job lot of engines they bought up. If the Rotax 650 could be slotted in I would be happier. Torn between several options for a proper dual purpose bike, I don't want a pure off roader or something that is too highly strung.

Actually its made in Varese - Italy by the old Husqvarna factory and staff, so it's a butt ugly Italian bike you numpty, the 17"/19" wheel version should be in the UK within the next few weeks (according to the importers)

Sorry, I do know SWM's history, but geniune question is this modern reincarnation really made in Italy?, as opposed to assembled in Italy from bits made largely in China and elsewhere?

I doubt there is a car, bike, washing machine or computer on the planet that doesn't have a component that originated in China somewhere in it.

I'm a numpty too Knobby and I think 7.5k for something unproven and manufactured in China/assembled in Italy is a big ask when you can buy a KTM/CCM for the same money. Now 2.5k for a Chinese WK 400 trail that's worth a gamble.
