Which Adventure Travel Books?
Mine tooPaulinBont wrote:Jonny Bealby's 'Running with the Moon' is my favourite book; he takes his Tenere to the Tenere desert.
He went to mourn/understand the sudden death of his beloved girlfriend - so not just about the biking
Thought provoking about love and relationships

To impress people we don't even like

that's the only book on the subject that I will read again. I personally find most others too self indulgent by definition.Teflon Jnr wrote:Touching the world is a fantastic book

Re: Which Adventure Travel Books?
I agree with all so far. I didn't warm to Geoff Hill and Jonny Bealby's style but they are worth a go.
I'd add Dylan Samarawickrama, Geoff G Thomas, Jeremy Kroeker and Ousin Hughes to the mix.
If you want older stuff then One Man Caravan by Robert Edison Fulton is certainly in my top ten.

Re: Which Adventure Travel Books?
I seem to have a bit of a penchant for older travels:
The Rugged Road - Theresa Wallach
India: The Simmering Dream - Max Reisch
Around the world on a motorcycle 1928-1936 - Zoltàn Sulkowsky
Motorcycle Adventurer (First Motorcyclist to ride around the world 1912-1913 - Carl Stearns Clancy) - Dr Gregory W. Frazier
One Man Caravan - Robert Edison Fulton Jr
A short walk in the Hindu Kush - Eric Newby
On a more modern bent these are also good:
Lost in Mongolia - Colin Angus
The Perfect Vehicle - Melissa Holbrook Pierson

Re: Which Adventure Travel Books?
As much as I enjoyed all of Sam Manicom's and Ted Simon books, Robbie Marshall, Triumph around the world has to be my favourite. Taking a Triumph Trophy off road in Columbia being shot at from the roadside and his style of writing and humour kept me well entertained. The John Bealby Running with the Moon was good too. Also any of the "Far and ... " books by Neil Peart has my vote (new one out this Oct) (thumbs) . Melissa Holbrook Pearsons The Perfect Vehicle is a great read, not strictly Adventure though.
