Re: Norway 2016
I am unable to improve on my riding companions photographic or library skill, nor for that matter his Pub Quiz knowledge. However, just to demonstrate that I was there ...

Re: Norway 2016
Norway, number one for me. Got back 7am from 2 weeks, up to Lofoten, Polar centre and the new Panorama road Stryn area(beats the atlantic coast road ten times over)
5117 miles in two weeks, BMW R1200RS, computer showing journey detail
Tried adding photo but details were
Trip 1, yesterday, 886 miles, 20 hours, from Denmark
Trip2 Total mileage 5117
consumption economy 1, links to trip 1 = 62.8 mpg (average speed was only 55mph, as it took 5 hours for just over 200miles in Germany getting past roadworks, heavy traffic and horrible rain, surface flooding and the worst riding conditons over 6hours I have ever encountered in 40years.
Economy 2, whole trip was 65.7 (some days in Norway, 50mph max it was over 70mpg.

Well here's your next trip then our Steve:Harper wrote: You couldn't see anything over the edge, apparently the cliffs are stunning.
I found some over gloves in one of my many bags, I'd had the foresight to take a jumper, just wish I'd put it on sooner.
So, my review of Nordkapp, a lot of people say it's not worth going, there's a lot more to Norway and they're right, it's a long way further than you need to go to experience Norway, but, it's a goal and an accomplishment and you can't say it's not worth doing until you've done it.
For me, getting to the Russian border and up to the Arctic Ocean, at the end of the 886 was much more of an achievement.

The we'll work out the east-west thing (thumbs)
Well done those men!
Simon

Re: Norway 2016
Day seven, maybe eight, who's counting.
Feel a bit deflated now that Nordkapp has been conquered and it was a bit underwhelming, I'm sure if the weather was clearer it would have been a different kettle of rotten Norwegian fish.
On the list of things to see/do is a gorge, the Sautso Canyon, the biggest in Northern Europe, somewhere near Alta. We tootle into the centre of Alta and find the tourist information office, to get directions. The very nice gentleman there, tells us it's a two hour hike from the road, but because we're on bikes to try the road through a quarry and ride around the barrier, we find the road and the barrier but it can't be got around on fully loaded bikes, there are piles of rubble strategically placed, never mind.
We have a very pleasant bimble (in the general direction of WSW) around fjord after fjord.
on the road to the gorge, yet another waterfall
The hut we stayed in that night
view from the hut

Re: Norway 2016
Day whatever.
Set off down the E6, lovely sweeping bend after bend, there's quite a few roadworks on this stretch, where they're building tunnels that are ultimately going to spoil the rides (IMHO).
First fjord of the day
Snap of Paul while we're waiting to be escorted through another set of roadworks.
Selfie in the same roadworks, complete with halo
We're heading for the Lofoten Islands, another thing on the list of places to do, via a couple of great biking roads to boot, the 86 and the 84. We got back on the E6 and turned off it just before Narvik onto the E10, setting up camp for the night in Gullesfjord, in yet another hut. It turns out the nearest shop is 30 km away, a German couple take pity on Paul and give him milk for a cuppa and his morning porridge..
