Re: What would you do? What can I do?
Hi everyone,
Tuesday and D day has definitely arrived.
Firstly thanks to everyone for your replies, it was interesting to see people's different points of view.
I rang this morning and spoke to John. I first asked about the warranty and as it is newer than the demo bikes they had, (18 months old),it still has 6 months warranty left. He said Mr Chorley had taken great care of it and had it well serviced. Yes it had been across deserts mountains and rivers but that is exactly what it's designed to do. It is a one owner from new with a well-known history. They have just serviced it for me and everything checked out fine. In his view it is way better than a demo bike that has had 101 different riders on them with their own agendas.
In the end John convinced me that there's nothing wrong with the bike and I've got 6 months to test it out. If anything goes wrong with it, just ring and they'll sort it. I asked how the warranty worked as I live 400miles away. He said if it needs warranty work they will collect it,fix it,and drop it off. As he said "much better than any normal motorcycle dealer"
So some people may say that I should have just rejected it out of hand, but all I want is a reliable GP450.I have 6 months to find out if it is reliable.
Thanks again to everyone

Re: What would you do? What can I do?
I'd maybe look at it this way
You've got the bike you want, set up the way you want at a cost you were willing to pay. There may well be a bit of smoke & mirror on the advert wording but you've now got 6 months to find out whether it's a pony. If it is someone's willing to come get it & unlikely to be any quibble over 'non warranty parts' .
Enjoy your new bike, I hope it's everything you wanted (thumbs)

With enough profanity, you can accomplish anything

I know I'd trust a company like CCM a lot more than some of the so called big manufacturers.

Do you remember the consternation from some quarters about this? "the service is 10 hours" all that crap? Ha. Finally that is put to rest and so it should be.minkyhead wrote:
the one thing that hasnt cropped up anywhere at all is engine failure and theres a few out there now done some decent miles .lots said they would blow up after 15 hours blah blah .. the bmw sevice limit was 10 hours major teardown at 70 hours ... the frame will snap no way will it go 5k ectect
mine is 37 times over the bmw limit knocking on six times the teardown limit and it starts first time smoke free ticksover and runs and pulls like a guddun ..and feels a just like it did when i bought it ..the clutch bearing rattle like feck just as it does when new and it is quite alarming when you havnt heard one tickingover before but that is what it does ..they all do that sir springs to mind![]()

You can only hope the manufacturer/dealer does what they promise and so far most reports from CCM customers have been positive.
My last experience with Triumph was Pure at Woburn and I'd guess it's their Wellingborough branch you won't use? Triumph at Hinkley did nothing about the way Pure acted and I'd never buy one of their bikes because of that.

Trust has to be earned in my eyes, it can take years to be built up and minutes to be destroyed. False advertising is a really fast way to destroy it.AndyB wrote:I hope it works out well for you (thumbs)

Big manufacturers you are buying from a dealer and have a choice of good and bad ones all over the country. I don't trust my local Triumph dealer, so I ride 90 minutes away to get it serviced.

Yep, Wellingborough.AndyB wrote:You can only hope the manufacturer/dealer does what they promise and so far most reports from CCM customers have been positive.

First time I went in there they told me I couldn't put a sports touring tyre (Pirelli Diablo Strada at the time) on my Daytona, because and I quote and shit you not, "the Daytona would rip it to pieces" Needless to say the Diablo Strada performed great on it, when the Angel ST came out to replace it, I switched to Michelin Pilot Road. Haven't had sports tyres on it in all the time I've owned it.
Second time was trying to order a new locking spring clip for the SSSA rear wheel nut, the guy on the desk said "get a breaker bar and tighten that nut as hard as you can, then you don't really need the clip". I told him I had a torque wrench, I'd be tightening it to 146nm, and please could I order the clip as I'd lost it had to put a split pin in there to keep my MOT tester happy.
They are full of shit.
