Who actually uses their bikes?????
Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
Bought the KTM 1 year ago with 20k on. Its been to Ireland, France, Spain and Morocco in that time and now has 36k on
Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
someome obviously liked riding my tiger, i got it with 51k on it, but it wasn't the last guy who only put 850 miles in 4 years on it, i've passed that in the 4 weeks since i got it. Riding every day, even in this rain just like a used too (been on a break), wife is actually happy now as she gets the car, only downside is no weekend riding atm as she is working and i'm looking after the kids - thats why i'm hitting the rally sites during the week

Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
Good to see there are plenty of folks about who aren't scared to rack up the miles. Of course we all have our reasons why we can't ride every day (I'm an engineer who uses a van every day to carry tools and equipment to site so only get to ride at weekends and days off) but my original point was that we all pay a lot of money to have our bikes and so shouldn't be afraid to use them, otherwise as someone else on this thread stated, they are just expensive ornaments.
Why? Why not?

I use mine................ as a big fat shiney ornament sitting in my garage smiling straight back at my big fat chops! :cheer:
Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
I bought my TDM 900 new back in November 08 took it home covered it in ACF50 & have used it nearly everyday since to goto work (only 12 miles) & when I can away for weekends away or day trips so far I have only managed 18,000 miles.
I still try to keep it clean & in good condition, using ACF50 helps. But I know if I was to get rid I would get the whole "too many miles" Kack so I just plan on keeping it for at least 6 years.

All dealers are the same. When I bought a yellow ZX6 in 2005 the dealer told me it was an unusual and very rare colour. When I came to trade it in two years later, after the sharp intake of breath I was told that yellow was the least desirable of the colours......Same dealerTDMTAM wrote:I bought my TDM 900 new back in November 08 took it home covered it in ACF50 & have used it nearly everyday since to goto work (only 12 miles) & when I can away for weekends away or day trips so far I have only managed 18,000 miles.

I think some dealers are, or certainly used to be to blame for a lot of 'temporary speedo failures, ahem!) Ooohh, it's got 10 thousand miles and it's only 2 years old, that's a bit high. But funnily enough they are the complete opposite if you are buying a high miler. Yeah, these bikes are good for high mileages. Hmmmm, which is it to be??
Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
i have a "97 1100 pan with 45k on the clock.sadly i dont get to ride it half as much as id like.dealer i got it off said "mileage dont matter on these, its the condition that counts, theyl go on forever". same dealer 3yrs later said thru clenched teeth "ohh thats high mileage, cant sell em above 20k".i walked away!
bosses are like nappys, always hanging round ya arse and full of shit.

Re: Who actually uses their bikes?????
Just so I know what side of this fence I'll be put on, can someone tell me what is the correct mileage to be doing to be a proper biker, and not a poser?
Surely someone has a metric/formula to calcutate this?
Does it count more if it is an old bike or new?
What about self servicing:- more or less kudos?
With the sh!te consumption of many bikes compared to cars, hideous tyre prices and wear compared to cars, shocking service interval and spares prices compared to cars, I can well see why some pick and choose when to use their bikes...
At the end of the day, surely it is a case of personal choice?
People's most expensive suit is usually the one they wear the least...
