Been reading this with interest, I am not surprised by the potential problems, when I looked at the bike in the NEC I immediately hated it and felt there is no way I would want to ride that thing on any adventure, let alone off Tarmac Its only my opinion, but it should not be called and Africa Twin as it does no justice to the aforementioned classic, more like a Vara but too much to break and go wrong, and way too early to be claiming iconic status !!

Confirmed, its the business (thumbs)
quote from a good source says- the best off road 1000cc adventure bike on the market. Honda set out to produce a motorcycle that would do it all, and thats what it has achieved (thumbs)

All the usual gripes from people that's never rode it.
Will the Africa twin take over from the GS for all the critics?

I'll test it then comment.

A lovely looking bike [especially in white]and a nice seat/bar position but the 2 things I hated about my 800 tiger were tubed tyres and 94bhp,nowhere near enough especially 2 up if you are only a road rider.

That could probably be proved factually so is not an opinion.
There you go again! When you've turned "probably" into "actually", you might have a fact rather than another opinion.

We get it - you like Hondas. You like old Africa Twins. You like the new AT so much you've probably spilled seed over photos of it!!!

At this rate, the most popular accessory Honda could offer for this (yet to be ridden) bike would be an AT themed soapbox!

Bhp doesn't mean its not powerful, I don't no the torque of the Africa twin, but its just as important, as an example my ford transit truck is 136Bhp yet weights 3.5 ton when loaded. And pulls very well (thumbs) :)

Correct, my GS has 'only' 85bhp but pulls like a train two up, with luggage.

I'm actually more of a Kawasaki & Suzuki fan, but yes I do like this Honda (thumbs)

Try that reliabillity report.
Top 3 are Japanese.
In fact it should read Top 4 Japanese because Suzuki should have been included if you read on.

Oh & you've missquoted me on old AT's.
I never mentioned them.

I wanted to dislike the bike, but having seen it at the show,I have had a rethink (thumbs)
My thoughts on the way home,
1st junk the exhaust,,it just got 10 kilos lighter
2nd junk the exhaust,it may be one of those engines that will make another 20 bhp with a decent system and a fueling tweek,
remember the mk1 1200 bandit , ;)

I think an earlier post sums it up 'its the best 1000cc offroad adventure bike on the market'
Clever marketing wording right there.

When you think about it then it probably is (the current market anyway) -

Can't be compared to the 1190r or the XTz1200 they're 200cc too big.
Cant compare the KTM 1050 to it as it the 1050 isn't dirt styled or dirt biased by design, having said that, stick a set of knobblies on it and who knows.
Triumph? nope no 1000cc bike in same category
Vstrom or Transalp not what you'd call dirt orientated either.
BMW ? nope 800 or 1200 no 1000

The AT is styled and marketed as an offroad orientated bike its a 1000cc ergo its the best that's out there by design only because the other manufacturers have neglected that part of the market so honda has slipped in to the acclaim by default.

Having said that they haven't compared it to older bikes like the 950 or 990 ktm's and it's pretty obvious they probably won't as i imagine they are more akin to the genre the AT is trying to slip into.

I have no doubt it may be a good bike, low power, not too light to make it lairy so it'll suit trailriding as everyone knows its not always about power, you can ride fast and smooth with less power in most situations rather than fight with too much power.

Only time will tell on the reliability and quality of parts aspect.
