At work one day I could have a six speed manual truck, next day a 4 speed plus splitter, another day a 6 speed automatic and to be honest you adapt very quickly, personally I would choose the auto every time.
I always said I didn't want an automatic car until I drove one, now I would prefer one (my lads DSG box with flappy paddles is fantastic).
So personally I wouldn't dismiss the DCT until I'd ridden it back to back with a normal manual.
I agree with you about trucks and cars and I'd add scooters and road bikes.
But you need a clutch action on an bike with off road aspirations.
I would highly recommend trying a DCT bike on a long ride before you dismiss it. I can't vouch for hard core off roading but from the reports it looks very capable for more than anything I would try on it off road. I've had a DCT NC700X for three years (as well as half a dozen manual bikes) and it's a revelation, the AT is an improved version so should be even better.

To answer some of your questions:
*no clutch or gear lever
*you can change up or down with buttons on left switch gear
*different modes can be selected
*it has a parking brake on the lever which I understand on the AT can be used as a rear brake (not sure how, this isn't an option on my NC and not needed anyway)
you can't bump start the NC and I'm pretty sure AT will be the same
* slow riding is a doddle right down to a standstill

To be honest, apart from DCT and styling I don't see anything here that's different to an 800GS. For example, the big BMW is a boxer twin, KTM have V twins, Triumph has the tripple. Typical Japanese clone.

So in the end it's a no from me :(

Not that I'm getting one but I'd be wanting to try the DCT in some of the places I've had my 950, some reasonably steep rocky descents can be tricky enough with the gearing I have but to suddenly have the clutch disengaged might be cause for concern, but I suspect it's tied into the ABS sensors so the control knows the bike is still rolling.

She ain't no clone she's unique & drawn from years of experience with a better dirt riding & reliabillity pedigree. (thumbs)

Are you sure, have you ridden one?

Time will tell, but the proof is in the eating and guessing wildly is just pure speculation

Don't need to with years of experience & keen perception....oh and she looks right.
I'd buy one without even swinging my legg over it.
I was refering to Honda's historic pedigree & I think that just about outclasses the rest (thumbs)
