Update

Now that I have finished my degree I was able to get out on the DRZ at the weekend to test ride it with full luggage on and guage the fuel range

Some small tweeks in luggage loading followed due to new camp bed (lighter) and addition of small BBQ and a 1.5kg bag of coal. I put the tent in the Lomo bag and this was great as it provided a nice support against lower back. I also got to test the newly refurbished Tony Archer seat. 3 hrs riding without any need to stand up and stretch. Very pleased

I ran the tyres at 20f and 25r. Rear spring added some preload. All ran very well.

A spirited ride on Friday night over to the caravan in Portmadog and a leasurely ride back. Have not checked for fuel on the way back yet but the Friday ride had clear roads, some over takes and some clear motorway on which I was doing 70mph for a good chunk

The bike feels better (less strained) at 64 mph, which is about what speeds we have mostly travelled on abroad. On the way over it has returned 58.5 mpg, more than I expected with full load. I have added a small Fuel Friend 1.5ltr bottle to the rack. Range at this consumption will be approximately 190 miles. Update = just filled up and the return leg did 61.9 mpg so I reckon an average of 60 mpg that will give 180 out of the tank and 20 in the bottle.

I'll see what the route home has delivered in fuel consumption. Heavy traffic on the way home especially on the motorway so gave me a goofd chance to try out filtering with the luggage on. Once again no problems at all

I feel that it is a bike that will travel long distance in comfort not that different to my Africa Twins. Very pleased with the overall set up now and looking forward to getting away for a couple of weekends in September

The soft waterproof Motobags are a great bit of kit, they stayed solid

Cheers Spud

I wondered too about the bags being near the exhaust but there was no problems with the soft luggage or the end can. The can did not get that hot and there is clearance of approx 20mm between the back of the bag and the plastic side panel / heatshield

Motobag recommend 4 inch clearance I suppose to be on the safe side

Thanks Paul, interesting and useful and confirms what we all know - for most people, in most situations, it's the best value for money adventure bike you can buy and develop. Look forward to hearing and maybe seeing more (thumbs)
