Re: would you buy an insurance cat c bike?
Just saw the query about insurance. The rules on insurance have changed in the last few years so if the insurance company don't ask if the bike is a write off at the time of getting a quote they can't use that as an excuse not to pay out although it would obviously affect the value. If something isn't important enough for them to ask the question they can't then claim you should have told them!

I love my Sprints! I had an ST for 10 years and put 60k miles on it then got this RS.I've put 10k on this one in 18 months.Plenty of "real world" power, lots of low down/mid range torque where you actually want it on the road.I've never though "I wish I had more power!"Tink wrote:The bike were looking at is a triumph sprint 955 rs,
Low milage in yellow,
What do you think of your triumph for comfort and power? (thumbs)
Comfort wise I did 630 miles in two days last weekend with no aches.I have fitted higher ST bars though. (thumbs)

I wouldn't like to be in the dock repeating that to the judge, I suspect maybe 1% of people buy a Cat C/D bike/car, why should the ins co ask the question, i'd think the onus is on you to declare it when they do ask if there are any other modifications/alterations to the vehicle......Cat C is fairly major work.....however I don't know exactly what the law says, ive usually told them its had a new MOT after any repairs, and ins were happy with that, and ive always told the MOT tester it was a repaired Cat C/D....but they usually spot it anyway...and if its a car it has to go to VOSA for a VIN identity check before you can tax it....
but,as I said, i'm not 100% sure, so ive played on the safe side....

Re: would you buy an insurance cat c bike?
I'm just repeating what I've read from the lawyer who writes a column in Bike magazine.I bought my bike already repaired with an MOT so I can't see why I would have to mention it was once a write-off before I got it.chico wrote:sprintster wrote:Just saw the query about insurance. The rules on insurance have changed in the last few years so if the insurance company don't ask if the bike is a write off at the time of getting a quote they can't use that as an excuse not to pay out although it would obviously affect the value. If something isn't important enough for them to ask the question they can't then claim you should have told them!

Re: would you buy an insurance cat c bike?
would buy a cat d or c bike without a problem of insurance auction and do repairs myself B)
would not buy a bike which was repaired by someone else, unless I am sure I can trust a repair or it was just cosmetic damage.
those categories are determined, they are not really to the amount of damage done, but to the cost of repair vs blue book price. eg if a frame has a scratch somewhere wich does not make any difference, it still must be replaced, and if the replace cost is above certain threshhold relatve to the bike price, it is either cat D or C

true, if it was an insurance claim you'd want the bike/car back in as before condition, if the frame was scratched youd expect it done right or replaced.......but the big difference is a Cat D is not recorded, but a Cat C has the V5 marked,it says something like, "this vehicle has been substantially damaged and recorded as written off " some things like a bent frame or forks would automatically be Cat C I think

Been there done that never ever !Tink wrote:My mate is looking at buying a bike that is cat c write off, looks mint with all old mot to back up milage etc,
So would you or have you ever bought insurance claim bike?
Normally written off as the insurance company see it as behold Economical Repair
In which case the bike /car should be scrapped .
Re: would you buy an insurance cat c bike?

if you are completely technicaly incompetent, then yes, maybe better to steer off those bikes.
