How did they cut this ground anchor?

Post by phillh »

Over the weekend, 4 youths forced my sons garage door open (over the garage defender by bending the door upwards) and attempted to steal his bike.

It was secured to a ground anchor by an HD Oxford lock and chain and had several other chains on the front wheel.

The ground anchor had been broken open, at first I thought they must have used the bike as a lever to break it with the HD chain but am now having second thoughts.

Any ideas on how they did it? Access was very limited, the anchor was very close to garage wall and the bike was the other side.

The youths were disturbed by a neighbour and made off without stealing anything. The bike was undamaged and has now been moved to a safer place.

Firstly, I`m pleased they didn`t get anything and think they should be publicly flogged, if/when identified.

IMHO...they`ve levered the anchor via the chain. A couple of big fookers and a six foot bar will clear most anything. I suspect they were trying to lever the anchor from the floor but had a result when the anchor split.

I`ve said it before, and I`ll say it again...locks are only for honest people!

Use your imagination, thieves know how to overcome `shop bought` security, contact your local fabrication shop to make you something ;)

Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrum on which to place it, and I shall move the world.

Poor design of anchor IMO. The kind that are sunk in the ground are stronger.

But with a determined group of bad guys, any lock can only buy you time.

Alarm mines, which fire a shotgun blank, will test the resolve of anyone...especially if you get your neighbour to call the police with a report not of a suspected break-in but a firearm being discharged!

What's good for up and over garage door ???? Been thinking about making something that doesn't advertise I got something expensive in here , which I think the brightly coloured locks that go on outside do

What's good for them?

Glue carpet gripper tracks (which are very sharp) roughly half an inch from the inner face edge.

At some point the scrotes will probably have to put their hand down the sides to give the door an almighty tug. Believe me IT HURTS and leaves plenty of DNA behind, which is a bonus.

Probably the same as what happened to my father's house / garage in very sunny Provence.

That's just a guess mind.

Cold chisel, I would say for the cutting, then a big ass bar or jemmy.
