f800 gs raising the front wheel!

Post by dibbs »

Well i will be taking the front wheel off soon and wondered what to use to just lift the front up a bit. When the bike is on the centre stand the rear wheel is raised off the ground but the front is still touching the floor, and although it can be spun by gripping it and yanking it round im wondering what could be used to prop it up a bit so i could slide the axle out a bit easier as the pressure would be released, there must be an easy way but im stumped!!!!! And doing it on my own cant weight the rear and prop the front at the same time :(

I had to take my front f800 wheel off to get a new tyre fitted. I used my car axles stands (one would do) to keep the bike stable and from falling forward. Simple and quick.

Cheers

Just had a look at your profile Dibbs. You are in Essex, I am in Lancashire, so the offer of the use of my bike lift would be rather tricky!
But you would have been welcome to the use of it.

Ratchet strap or rope from the bars to the roof rafters.

try a few bags of pea shingle as far back on the bike you can go , all you need to do is shift the weight of the bike from being front heavy to rear heavy , another idea is wheel the bike onto a sheet of 8'x4' ply and using some tie downs "pull" the rear of the bike down till there is clearance at the front. You should be able to get some "eye" bolts and fix to the ply. I'm going to be making something similar but using 8mm chequer plate. Just a few ideas to mull over . Oh another , my garage has a cross-bar and I've used this to strap the front end up when needed.

Hahaha thanks for the offer SteveW.... some good answers here i thought of a small trolly jack ( i think Aldi had some for £20!!) And i do have an old axle stand knocking around in the garage ( glad i never chucked it knew it would come in handy one day!)

I was thinking more for when im on a trail or roadside without such modern tech aids lol...
