Givi Trekker Outback Topbox

Post by xengibez »

Finally got around to getting the topbox to match the givi outback panniers, now these are great bits of kit but whilst swapping out the barrel so all the boxes open on one key I was a little disappointed with the security side of these. To much plastic for what could be metal parts and the main piece is just plain plastic shroud fix from the inside by 6 drywall type screws. I could see this being very easy to get of and as such the box easily broken into... :-(

Sorry to hear that but with your experience you may be able to advise me. Just back to biking after a 30 year break - got myself a nearly new Transalp 700. I like the look of Givi Trekker/Outback panniers but not the price for new ones! So a) are they as good as they look b) what are the best places to look for used panniers and c) should I bear anything in mind re fitting to the Honda (e.g. specialist pannier frame/holders?). Any advice from any source will be gratefully received

Greetings - that question is a whole bag of fish really.

It depends - as many no doubt will say - on what you want them for?

Well, I have no current plans to do major rough expiditions and I'm not commuting. After 30 years out of the saddle I aim to do some easy road riding in the UK this summer just for pleasure, and then assess what the future holds (thats why its a Transalp & not a BMW GS). So, at the moment its just a bit of modestly sized, secure carrying capacity that adds to the bikes looks

Get some Ard cases as these are as cheap and as well made new that you will find. Other than that keep an eye on ebay. I bought the givi outback in black as I got a great deal for them, and my criticism of the lock is probably due to me being someone who loves to see things over engineered, they look great and have performed very well...

Bought the 58L topbox last week and really happy with it, enough room for my lid and jacket in the summer and hooks inside so that I can use a cargo net to stop stuff bouncing around, yes the lock could be broken with a screwdriver but couldn`t they all!
Looks big but suits the S10 and the outer dimensions aren`t much bigger than the previous 46L Givi but having straight sides much more room inside.
Should make a good camping stool as well (thumbs)

Yes they could be broken into with a screwdriver.. Exactly my point regarding the lock, and it's not just what's inside the box the box it would be the whole bloody £300 box..
But like I've said I got all 3 boxes in black, including rack and inner bags for less than a £1000 all in so I'm not going to grumble to much about it.. ;-)
