November 1st 2010,
The mighty strom all packed up and ready to go Zero Defects, the rider not fairing so well, slightly hungover full of nerves and dread,
"what the hell am i doing" i said to my understanding partner, with a lump in my throat
"this is madness, i dont want to go now i'm not ready."
"you will be fine love don't worry go and do what you need to do, Tom and i love you, you know that just get going." she said with a tear in her eye.
So that was that hit the go button and dont look back, with Beautiful South cranked up in the ear phones i headed for Plymouth to the ship that will take me and my ride to Santander, our first overseas trip together.
The sun shining through the scattered clouds, a beautiful morning crisp and clear, sheep munching the dew soden grass in the fields i started to relax, this is it i thought my own real life adventure.
Arriving at the port i pulled over to stow my GPS and sort out my passport and paper work, the nerves started again so i lit a cigerette and was promptly sick with nerves.
"I dont know if i can do this love" i said down the mobile.
Again her reasurance was steady and sure that i would be fine.
I rode to the ticket office to hand in my ticket confirmation number,
"Your cabin key is there sir"
"Where" i replied looking through the envelope for a door key,
"In your right hand sir"
Ah that will be the credit card shape piece of card with cabin key and a number on it then.
Whilst waiting to board the ferry there were a few power rangers to chat with, all had riden Spain before and talked as if it were old hat to them.
In a way that was reasuring to this so far unsure adventurer, after boarding and securing the bike i headed to my cabin, changed and had a stroll on deck this is it no going back now son.
With my new calm and the familiar feeling of being at sea i reached for my mobile to check in at home, only to find the ON/OFF button stuck in and the phoned switched off,
Shit, it dawned on me i have no address book i dont even know Theresa's mobile number great 14 days with hardly any contact, i new i should have stayed at home.
Right lets man up stop feeling sorry and solve the problem, in my wash bag i had some sented shaving oil the next thing to hand was my GPS securing key. With a generous amount of oil poured around the button and some frantic pushing with the GPS key my phone beamed into life.
Bloody great i can do anything me!

After a rough crossing finaly the Spanish coast was in view.
