DIY mouldable silicone earplugs

Post by JimboF650 »

Anyone tried the cheap options out there? - just wondering if they're any good / safe to make.
The ultimate ones are too expensive, and I'd just loose them.

I'm happy with my everyday earplugs, just need something for longer trips, as had very sore ears for my 8 days in france in the summer.

I tried some of these

I couldn't get on with them. They hurt my ears and are a little too firm that they don't quite fit nicely.

However at that price maybe you could give them a go. I have ridiculously small ear canals so now use kids foam ones after buying a sample of about 20 different types.

Going to the NEC show next weekend so I need to stay away from Ultimate Ears etc otherwise I can see my buying a pair of the basic ones if they have a special on.

Jimbo
Over a year ago I too tried the same cheapies from Ebay, enough in the pack to make two sets, so gave it go and on the second set put in some good earphones, very easy to do.

Still using them regularly, the sound is great and very comfortable, I can also put them in with or without music and fall asleep without any pain.

So for me I would say go give it a go at £7 no big deal if it does not work out.

I have a new pack ready to make only as I am to change the earphones otherwise still going strong..

I have used them Jim and found them comfortable enough but the noise reduction was a little less than the foam in ear type. One thing I did notice was that when you moved your head for lifesavers it occasionally broke the seal and the noise increased momentarily. For longer trips I use the ultimate ear swimmers silicone ones and find them very good but you can only use them a few times.

For £19.99 you can get the re useable and washable Auritech plugs. I have the custom fit ones which I find really comfortable for me. Both have the filtration cylinder system or something along them lines. :)

Stick with these, comfortable for 8 hours at a time at work. I don't like the idea of these new fangled silicon plugs personally
